Everyone knows the heroine in vampire novels must be immune to his thrall. It's one of those things that makes her such a very special little snowflake. Because, of course, we must know that it is ~*twu wuv*~ and not a hypnotic trance that makes her fall for tall, dark, and blood-sucking. But a lesser known fact is that it's not only special snowflakes that are immune; there's a whole other class of people left completely unaffected by a vampire's special gift. You see, a vampire's gift plays on your own emotions. They can make you sigh in bliss when you'd normally cry out in terror. They can make you desire them even if, normally, you'd find them as attractive as week-old roadkill. And they can make you scream in heart-stopping panic for no reason at all. But they can do none of these things if you don't know what bliss, terror, desire, or panic are.

They can't effect you if you're an emotionless sociopath.

I always thought the time to cut my hair would come the first time I sat on it - if, indeed, my hair would ever get that long. Right now it's waist-length and the most annoying thing (other than the weight and the heat) is that it can (and does) occasionally fall into my food. Oh, and if I don't braid it at night, it's likely to be yanked out by someone 'accidentally'. *evil glare*

But now I might have found another reason to lop it off - crocheting.

Recently, while crocheting a potholder at a Royals game, I kept catching the ends of my hair and crocheting them in. Now, I've crocheted a lot of loose hair into my work (anyone who has something made by me almost certainly has a few hairs in there - yup, start making those voodoo dolls now!), but this is the first time I started to crochet in hair that was still attached to my head.

And yet I'm loathe to cut it, because it's the first time I've ever had hair this long and I'm getting used to the fact that I can feel it brushing against my back and against the back of my arms... I'm considering dying it darker again, though, because the sun has done a number on lightening it. Would definitely need two kits of dye...

Thursday poll - fill in the lyric:

"Girls ____ your boys!"

(Is it Friday yet? Also, did anyone actually see the new Mythbusters that was supposed to be on yesterday? We got two hours of old pirate special, no 'viral special'. I was bummed.)

[The intern and I were talking about the Olympics, and we started looking at the events.]

I've always though that some of the track & field combinations were odd - I mean, I understand the decathalon (it's all the 'classic' t&f events) and the trithalon (human powered races), but the biathalon? Skiing and shooting? What?

And then there's the pentathalon - shooting, fencing, swimming, riding, and running?!

Suddenly he looked up. "Oh! It's all the things you need to be a pirate!"

...and then it all made sense. Sadly, I don't think we can convince the Olympic committee to make them compete in pirate shirts and high boots...
