And even a few things crossed off the to-do list, though there was a distinct lack of motivation today.
Teaser craft pic - too bad I don't have any huge Harry Potter fans on my flist that might like a little tote, because it was meant for a swap, but I never sent it...

Craft Project #4 - the felt crane experiment.
I don't know if any of you remember, but awhile ago I made a fabric crane. It was okay, but of course the fabric frayed on the edges. So, I wondered, what about using felt? It doesn't fray! It would be perfect!
It's true, it doesn't fray. But you know what else it doesn't do? FOLD. No amount of sewing it together really helped overcome that fact.

FAIL OF EPIC PROPORTIONS.
Oh, well, they can't all be winners. Yes, it took me an hour to make that felt crane, with all the tiny stitches. But the important thing is I learned something. I learned the best medium for origami cranes? Paper. And, on the up side, a paper crane only takes about 100 seconds to make (though I still want to try dipping them in Plasti-Dip, if I can ever get my hands on white).
Craft Project #5 - Harry Potter Tote
Back when I was doing the Harry Potter swap, I made a T-shirt. I'd also scaled down the design to put on a little tote bag I bought, but I never got around to do it (which is good, since my partner flaked, I'm glad I didn't go overboard). I also apparently had lost the freezer paper I'd started to cut out, which sucked, because I had to start over, which took awhile. But, I persevered, and found out that knit t-shirt material is the best for freezer paper stenciling. The canvas of the bag wasn't really smooth enough for the freezer paper to cleanly adhere to, leading to some blobby areas.

Since I wasn't happy with it, I slapped a coat of Glow-in-the-dark paint on top (it's not dry in the pic above, you can still see it).

I think it needs a thicker coat, maybe a second coat, I don't know. I'm not enough of an HP fan to ever use it, so there's a small chance of the bag ending up in a dusty corner unless someone rescues it.
Only two crafts today? Ugh. I don't know if I'll get anything done tomorrow, I have class in the evening and that usually uses up all of my time. I might be able to do a little something at lunch, but not much.
Well, I'd better go put away some laundry... right after a few games of solitaire...

I think the crane looks pretty good too. A little messy in the middle, but all the extremities look right. Jeez, I would never have had the patience for that.

The problem with the back is the lack of crisp folds. The regular fabric creased properly, but felt is just all poofy. But, hey, live and learn!

Do I have to finish my Nano novel to qualify as good? :-P
I was going to ask if you've tried knitting a crane, but there are a few patterns on Ravelry, so it wouldn't be a real challenge anyway...

HOWEVER!
Telling me there's a knit crane pattern out there is NOT good, and I'm not sure whether it's better or worse that a pattern is available in a book that the library has. That I now have a hold on. ::stares daggers at you:: Because I need more craft project ideas, don'tcha know? ;p
