It's that time of year. November is fast approaching, and that means NaNo. Usually. But I am very seriously thinking of giving it a miss this year. And I do mean seriously, not my usual tongue-in-cheek 'and this time I mean it' sort of way.
Why? Well, I've proven I can do it, with varying levels of success. I've written things that resemble coherent stories, and I've written drivel. I even failed once. I think I've covered all the bases. So what is left? Yes, it's still hard, and it's still a challenge, but it's an old, conquered challenge. And, much like knitting or crocheting patterns, a new, challenging paten is just more fun than one you've done before.
Though I did even have an idea for NaNo this year - every day I was going to post silly tips on how to pad your wordcount. Goodness knows I used every single one of them last year!
Instead, I think November is going to be about a different challenge for me, one that really will be a challenge.
By the end of November, I want my big book of to-do to only have items on it from that day. I currently have 85 items of varying time/difficulty on my list. That's accomplishing 3 old things per day, plus whatever new things crop up. And most of my old craft projects are not on the list, because I figured most of them would take too long.
Although maybe that is a bit too ambitious? Some of the items are easy, yes, but some are 20-40 hours jobs. Hmmmm...
Maybe my goal should be to reduce my to-do list by one item every day. So I have to do everything new (number-wise) plus one thing. I'll still have quite a few things on my list when I am done, but... it will be moving in the right direction.
Or I'll just stop writing things in my big book of to-do. Except I added 16 things today... Eeeeep.
