Depending on how fast he's driving.

Anyway, my foster car has been re-united with its true family, and has gone home. It seemed.... er, happy about it. As happy as a car can be, anyway. And my Dad seemed delighted with the tacky (but funny) Boob Gearshift Cover I made him. Seriously, who makes something out of METAL that you have to grab on to in order to operate the car? Brilliant, I tell you!

So, I thought I'd take a moment to reflect upon my time driving the 'Vette and weigh the pros and cons...

Pros: It's an awesome car that drives really well. And it attracts attention!
Cons: It attracts attention. That means no anonymity. If you call in sick to work it's a lot harder to nip off to the store without being spotted.

Pros: Did I mention it's an awesome, comfortable, fun-to-drive car?
Cons: Good lord it costs a lot to maintain! Just an oil change was over three times what it cost on a 'regular' car, not to mention that it takes premium gas.

Pros: Have I mentioned how awesome it is to drive?
Cons: I actually felt guilty when it was dirty. Me, a person who went three years without washing a car (that's what rain is for, right?) felt embarrassed when the car was dirty.

Pros: It's a really, really, really, really fun car to drive.
Cons: I worried about it. In parking lots, while driving... I worried. Granted, a lot of this probably had more to do with the fact that it wasn't my car. But still.

Pros: Have I mentioned it's comfortable, awesome, and fun to drive?
Cons: No trunk, not really. The interior is open all the way to the trunk, so all the stuff slide around and, if you have to slam on the brakes because some idiot turns in front of you, you risk being decapitated by a flying case of soda. Also, since you can look into the windshield and see all the way into the trunk, there's no hiding any bodies stuff.

Pros: Did I mention how comfortable the seat is? Seriously, fit like a glove!
Cons: It's not exactly a practical car, and I know it's not supposed to be, but I've never had an 'extra' car, so I think in terms of every day driving when it comes to cars. And we can't even take the dog to the French Fry store in it, because unlike the Mustang, which doesn't have a backseat to speak of, this car really doesn't have a backseat.

Pros: It's really, really, really fun to drive.
Cons: ...

On the balance, I'd say if you have an extra garage space and want something awesome to drive now and then, get yourself one of these. You can drive it everyday (I think, honestly, it'd handle the ice and snow better than the Mustang simply because it's a standard) but the high cost of maintenance (both mechanical and in terms of car washes so you don't feel like a boob) makes that a little prohibitive for someone like me.

Boob gearshift cover = sheer awesomeness.

And yes, seriously, why would they make that metal? Madness.

They're sadistic bastards, I think. That's the only explaination that makes sense!

Who the hell makes a gearshift from metal?

Your breast is delightful.

I have no idea, other than people who like to inflict pain on others.

Thanks, I worry I should make some peens just so I don't get accused of being sexist...

Loved the gearshift cover, quite hilarious!

Thank you!

Wish I could get an awesome car like that... here they cost the GDP of a medium-sized African country. ;)

Well, shipping alone... but yeah, they are expensive. The cheapest new 'vette is about $50,000, which is about twice as much as I want to pay for a car. Okay, I really don't want to pay more than $15,000 for a car, but we don't have a lot that's really cheap. Sure, some cars start at $10,000, but that's without options like a steering wheel... or brakes... :p

... well, at least a little.

I didn't realize that you liked the Vette so much. You did take very good care of it. Thanks.

And about that gearshift knob: I bought it as an aftermarket, special, deluxe, high-cost, add-on. I didn't like the leather-covered, funny-shaped, strangely stitched 'knob' that came from the factory. So I bought and installed this brushed aluminum knob. And I think it feels much better in the hand (when it's not scorching hot (summer) or cruely cold (winter).

Again, thanks for taking such good care of my baby. She appreciated it. And I'll be done with it in a few months.

You feel guilty? I feel kinda crummy... I will admit it's awesome looking, but that just lends more weight to my position in that it's an awesome extra car, but as an every-day-er, a bit high maintenance.

I'm glad you found her in decent shape! I could hardly not take care of her, what with her yelling at me about fuel, tire pressure, oil... That's one bossy car you have. The Mustang is about 3,000 miles overdue for an oil change and you don't hear it complaining! Yeah, I really should take care of that... but honestly, with synthetic oils these days, 6,000 miles is nothing. That's the minimum they told us on the new car. So about once a year...
