But the timing, I'm sure, is freaking people out. It's like the circle of doom... people worry about a collapse (GreatestJournal finally called it quits for real, I heard) which causes them to backup like mad, which clogs the servers, which causes panic, which leads to more downtime, more panic, more clogging, more... well, I suppose you get the picture.
I took the downtime to create a Twitter.
*hangs head in shame*
I know, I know. But it's easy, and really, if LJ is going to get spotty, it's a great way to keep in touch. So, f-list, go get a Twitter and add me. I found a few of you out there, but I don't know if everyone has one and/or if people used a different name.

i'm so addicted to that but I wouldn't blog there. blogging is more for my private surreal virtual life.

I'm still optimistic LJ will pull through this just fine, however, I think it's prudent to have a backup plan!

I'm almost frightened of Facebook, partly because it's too closely tied to real identities and partly because I hear it sucks away huge hunks of time!

I think I'm going to set up a Blogger page. I think I at least have all my LJ friends' email addresses so I won't lose anyone. But damn, I've got to get my journal archived, and I've got to get all the memories (mostly craft ideas and recipes) printed out. Those are the things I really don't want to lose.

I've been saving the pages of things I found interesting forever, so I don't really know if I have anything in memories or bookmarked that I don't have a saved copy of. I think I always worry that a page will go away (as they frequently do) so I just save them to my hard drive. Sadly, this does sometimes make credit hard (as you know, since that's how we met!) but it ensures I have a copy of the page!
I'm bookmarking everyone's alternate sites, too, just in case. Hopefully this will all blow over and it won't be a big deal, though.

I was definitely not panicking initially, until yesterday when it all went blank, and then I found out that a couple of other journal sites had gone completely under, that was really worrisome to find out.
Why can't it be Facebook going under instead???? Bleh.

To be fair, GreatestJournal's been 'dead' for awhile now, it just didn't have the sense to fall down. And the other was such a little odd one, I've never even heard of it. I think LJ has way to many users to just up and go away like that. Someone will realize its potential, and though it may end up scaled back or stripped down, I think it'll survive awhile now.
