Goodbye, $5,700.
Hello, huge slab of concrete!
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:10 pm (UTC)
Little pink mailboxes for you and me...
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:13 pm (UTC)
The best part?

THE FLAG IS A HUMMINGBIRD ON A FLOWER!

I kid you not. But I can't justify spending the money on a new mailbox - I'm hoping the mail truck with actually take it out one of these years (last year we ended up with a deep grove in the grass that stopped just short of it, unfortunately).
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:24 pm (UTC)
This just barely beats our electric blue wall paint when we first moved in. I think the hummingbird puts it over the top.
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:56 pm (UTC)
We had all sorts of really hideous stuff when we moved in - the back room was SALMON. Ugh. 'Tasteful' is not a word I'd used to describe the previous owner's decorating sense.
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:34 am (UTC)
Our old mailbox got taken in a NYE raid on the street.
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:37 pm (UTC)
You know, that really wouldn't bother me. It's at least be an excuse that I'd have to get a new one!
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:20 pm (UTC)
*knows where you live*
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:22 pm (UTC)
I know where you live, too... *and* I drove by there not too long ago... [cue creepy music]
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:24 pm (UTC)
Ha HA! You can not say the same of me!
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:57 pm (UTC)
No, sadly, and you miss out on awesome Christmas cards every year because of it! I even sent nifty crocheted snowflake ornaments to people...

It's okay, I understand.

*sniff*

My old roommate had a girlfriend that called him once. The conversation went like this.

"Hello?"

"Oh, I didn't think you were home."

"Well then why did you call?"

"Because I drove by your house and the light was on."

Which was especially creepy since we lived back in an apartment complex where you would basically have to park and get out of your car to see if the light was on.
Friday, November 21st, 2008 09:58 pm (UTC)
That... is uber-creepy. I think I'd worry about being collateral damage if I had a roommate with a girlfriend like that... especially if/when they broke up... O.o
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:37 pm (UTC)
Also, you say this, but I have yet to receive the wealth of presents I so richly deserve. Hmmmm....
Friday, November 21st, 2008 11:47 pm (UTC)
Looks good and I know where you live too!

*stalks you*
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:39 pm (UTC)
Ooooh! Are you bringing cookies? 'Cause stalkers with cookies are the best! ;)

I'm pretty happy with it, honestly - he did some things we didn't talk about, but they make a lot of sense. So it's all good.

Your driveway is the prettiest. Also, your house is adorable! It looks like a giant doll's house. ♥
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:42 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Once we get the landscaping all done it'll be a lot better, too... I'm not looking forward to next spring!
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:41 pm (UTC)
I actually dislike the color, but also can't decide what color I want it painted (it'll probably be 3-5 years, but we're going to have to have the siding patched up and the house repainted). I like the idea of white and slate blue, but there are several other houses in the neighborhood with that color, so... *shrug* We'll have to see. :D

(personally still would like a little stone English cottage covered in ivy)
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 02:05 am (UTC)
I don't know where you live, but that's a nice-looking slab of concrete you've now got! :)
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:43 pm (UTC)
Thanks!

You do know where I work, though, and could follow me home. Or, if you paw through my scrapbook there's probably still the map I made that time I was complaining about not driving by any grocery stores, and that'd get you pretty close.

...or, you know, if you wanted to know I'd just tell you. ;) We still need to get together and make some Octopdes!
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 02:58 am (UTC)
Nice! Your house is cute, too. And I'm jealous of your lack of snow. I got to walk home from school in -3 weather while Fianna pelted me from behind with snowballs, but it still looks like fall at your place. Yes, I'm bitter.
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 05:24 am (UTC)
That was my reaction too...for about an hour, then the novelty wore off.
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 05:28 am (UTC)
I've only seen snow twice, so.
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 04:49 pm (UTC)
It's better today, but yesterday it was so cold! I think it got close to single digits overnight, and the wind was horrific. Blew right through anything you were wearing. It's supposed to be in the 40s today, though.

Wait, is that -3 C? Are you one of those freaky Celsius people? ;) Because if so, it was a heck of a lot colder here! Looks can be deceiving... :D
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 05:27 am (UTC)
Yes, I am one of those freaky Celsius people. ;)

-3 really isn't so bad, it's just all the snow and the incredible...wintery-ness is depressing me. Because it's going to last until April at the very least, and...ugh.
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 10:23 pm (UTC)
I know where you live, too. But I can't get there because you took my car.

I especially like the crime scene tape. Very cool.
Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 10:52 pm (UTC)
Well, if'n you'd like the car back I suppose you could tow it in the dinghy... on the up side, you'd be able to drive around the islands. :D (not like I totally don't have a complex about taking the car, you know...)

*insert lame joke about the 'crime' scene and the price* *rimshot*

In seriousness, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, though there's a lot of landscaping work that needs to be done next spring.
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 10:38 am (UTC)
OK, no more jokes about the car.
And, yeah, the price is what I was referring to.

I'm heading off-shore to Charleston, SC, today and tonight. I should arrive sometime on Monday. Maybe it will be warmer down there.
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 04:31 pm (UTC)
'Socay, I just feel so guilty because... I did cover it up when they were working on the driveway and needed to get into the garage to finish the edge nicely, I figured you wouldn't appreciate concrete splatters. But it is a little spotty, though I *did* dust it once (that was the weirdest feeling ever).

Great minds think alike! :)

Have a good off-shore sail (though you'll probably be gone by now). I hope it's a lot warmer there than it is here!
Monday, November 24th, 2008 03:09 am (UTC)
Yea! Did you get to sign it to?
Monday, November 24th, 2008 03:26 am (UTC)
I thought really hard about putting a little paw print in it somewhere, but decided against it. I figured it was something that had to stay as neutral as possible, since it had better still be there when we sell the house!
