It occured to me, as I plugged in my cell phone that had been dead for almost a week, that perhaps I'm wasting my money having one. Sure, it's nice to have now and then, but... maybe... maybe I could live without it.

Or maybe I just need to get one with internet access and I'd be glued to that puppy 24/7.

*shrug*

I was doing the same thing, so I dropped the cell phone for about 3 years. Then I picked up Virgin Mobil...I only use it when I'm traveling or when something's up, but it's only $7 bucks a month and totally worth it.

I always think about doing that, but then I hit a patch where I use it for a week solid (like trying to resolve a gas line issue or getting driveway quotes) and it'd be so expensive to use one like that... though I'm sure I'd find a way around it if I had to.

I guess it comes down to if the price is worth the convenience. :/

Hmm, can you get a really cheap phone with a pay-as-you-go plan? I never use my cell phone either and sometimes I think it's just a waste of money, but then something happens and I really need it to call my mom, haha.

Yeah, I'm very used to being able to use it to call long-distance at work, and I think it would be annoying not to have that.

I did the math and I *think* I'm averaging 300 minutes a month, so a pay-as-you-go would be way expensive at that rate. Of course, I wouldn't use it as much, so...

Don't you guys have a prepaid thing where you put, like, $30 on it and only put more money on it after you've used up that $30? A lot of my friends have the pay-$50-a-month-and-get-$300-worth-of-calls deal but I'm just on the pay-whatever-and-it-expires-in-a-year plan because I don't use my phone a lot.

Yeah, we do, and I have thought about it. I think I'm over the line on usage, though, where the plan is probably cheaper.

Wow! $30 usually lasts me two or three months.

I still have heeeeaps on the phone at the moment, though, 'cause mum panicked and made me put like $90 on it just in case I needed it for Thailand.

I thought about getting rid of my cell phone and just buying one of those Bluetooth earpieces so that I can a) walk around looking important and b) have an excuse to talk to myself out loud in public.

Go for it! It doesn't even have to be a real Blue Tooth, a fake one would work just as well. And no ear cancer risk!
