In the past few days, I've been watching the bailout bill (no, I will not call it a rescue bill) and all of the voting and riders (wooden arrows? mental health? seriously? what do these have to do with the bill?) and crap, and I thought I'd made my final decision on who to vote for in the presidential election.

Since both of the frontrunners endorsed it and campaigned heavily for it, I was preparing my write-in vote.

For Snoopy.

But recently, some issues have come to light regarding this perennial favorite write-in. And they are serious enough to make me think twice about giving him my vote.

Issue #1: Beagle?

He claims to be a beagle, and yet, looks like no beagle I've ever seen. It's possible he means part beagle, but why doesn't he just say that? Is he ashamed of his Mutt heritage? And if he's part beagle, what's the other part, and why doesn't he claim it?

This is not insurmountable, and there could be a very good explanation, I'd just like to hear it before I cast my vote.

Issue #2: Met Life

He's the spokespersondog for Met Life. Obviously this is a huge problem, not only from an endorsement standpoint but because it shows how much he's in the back pocket of the insurance industry. Would he put special interests ahead of the people? Does he think he can he balance the endorsement, or is he willing to give it up? Even if he does, can we trust that?

This issue is much more serious, and might be a deal-breaker for me.

So now I'm left without even a write-in candidate, and have the incredibly unsettling feeling of having agreed with Brownback on an issue (yay for my state giving two 'nay' votes in the Senate!), and am fed up with politics in general. I am no longer reading a single political word on my f-list, so if you include multiple topics per post I'm probably missing things, and I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it any more.

It's true: two things you never want to see being made. Laws and sausage.

So, are you going to come back to my LJ on Nov. 5th? I just need to know when I need to bake cookies.

I'll still read anything not tagged 'politics' between now and then, but, yeah. I actaully thought about taking a break altogether, but I'm not sure I could handle that. ;) What if I miss out on the news of that the next LEGO game will be?!

(and, seriously, I really don't even care who wins any more - I'm so far past that it's not funny. I probably wouldn't even bat an eye if it turns out the Snoopy *is* elected!)

What about Santa Claus? I think one of my other friends is voting for him.

Ooooh, there's a thought. Or even Rudolf! He has demostrated leadership capabilities!

(there is the elf-labor issue with Santa that might hold him back, though - and now I have Weird Al's 'The night Santa went crazy' running though my head!)

Ooh, Rudolph! He can lead us through the economic fog!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That? Is perfect.

My husband used to work at a lunchmeat plant. Close enough to sausages to also be true.

What about Goofy?

Wow. Yeah. Long ago I lost hope in the System. Grassroots and local politics is where it's at. And even then it's dirty. I'm old and jaded. I know.

What about Mickey Mouse?

*hugs*
