So, a goal was to use up half of my yarn stash.

Since posting that goal, I have:

Bought a skein of pink & purple boa yarn to complete a scarf, using up two skeins I already had. So +1 but -3. Net -2

Used up four skeins of yarn on that shawl, -4. Net: -6

Bought four skeins of pink/black/white/grey (it was on sale!) but used them to make two scarves +4, -4. Net: -6

Bought two skeins of bright and chunky, but immediately crocheted them into a scarf. +2, -2. Net: -6

Used one blue and one white to knit a scarf, -2. Net -8

At this point it looks not so back. Then horrible, horrible, horrible things happened.

Bought:
4 skeins blue, 2 skeins brown afghan yarn (it was on sale!), +6. Net -2
4 skeins white, 4 skeins blue very light shawl yarn, +8. Net +6
1 skein yellow, 1 skein green, 1 skein white boucle for scarf, +3. Net +9
1 skein white (a pound) for afghan-in progress, +1. Net +10
1 skein lt blue, 1 skein dk blue, 1 skein pink, 1 skein yellow, 1 skein orange, 1 skein green, 4 skeins black for Tetris afghan, +10. Net +20
4 (more) skeins black for Tetris afghan, +4. Net +24
4 skeins black/white wool mix (just because), +4. Net +28
2 skeins of cotton for knitting dishclothes, +2. Net +30
2 skeins lovely lt blue because I adored the yarn, +2. Net +32

Then there was a bit of productivity. I used up 3 of the 4 smaller black skeins and 2 of the large ones on the Tetris afghan, as well as all of the red skein I had, and half of the rest of the skeins of colors. So, if I get to count halves (which I should!) I get -3, -2, -1, and -6(0.5) = -9. Net +23

I then used up a ball of multi-colored yarn and a skein of white starting a granny square afghan (not finished, but I'm 2 skeins of yarn into it), so -2. Unfortunately, I had to buy a skein of purple and a skein of green to finish it off, so right now I'm sitting at a big fat 0 on this one. Net +23

Another buying spree:
2 skeins of a pink-speckled cotton and 2 skeins of hot pink fuzzies, +4. Net +27
1 skein of white, 1 skein of red, and 2 skeins lovely green, +4. Net +31
4 skeins of beige-multi boa, +4. Net +35

That's all I can think of - I might have missed some, but I really hope not. Even though I have been really working on things, my buying is seriously outpacing my using. Right now I'm working on that purple/green granny square afghan and a bramble stitch scarf out of the green I just bought (I'm really hoping two will be enough!). And I have plans for the leftover Tetris yarn, I'm crocheting it into solid granny squares and am thinking of making another Tetris afghan that way, if I can. It won't be as big and heavy, but it'll use up the yarn! Otherwise, bright and random squares, here I come!

On the up side, if all the economic doom-and-gloom is true, at least I have enough yarn to keep me busy for a long, long time. And that's not even taking into account my fabric stash... O.o (which hasn't really changed, I'm not sewing much - except those bags I owe people that I really am working on! They take a bit to make... and, c'mon - LEGO BATMAN!)
