I keep conveniently forgetting about it, but my f-list keeps reminding me about it!

You totally made my evening.

Will the LHC be more cataclysmic than whatever goes on at Argonne currently?

I think that possibly creating a black hole that will *probably* decay (but we're not sure because Hawking radiation has never been shown to actually exist, but we're pretty sure about it) but if it doesn't could suck the entire earth into it trumps just about everything.

But don't worry. They're really fairly sure that nothing too awful will probably happen. Mostly. ;)

Haha! that image (and the website linked to in your comments) are hilarious. I'm a little nervous about it, but hey, if the world ends, it ends! Hehe.

Yeah, not much we can do about it, which is why I'm doing my best to ignore/forget about it. The internet is making that impossible, though!

That's funny, I had just brought up the LHC to T. this evening in a car ride, I hadn't realized the test run was coming up. I pulled up some links for him to learn more, and now he wants me to wake him up before 2am to watch the live webcast.

I'm more concerned about the actual smashing, though I suppose there has to be some concern about it functioning and not blowing up because of sabotage or a faulty bit. But it's unlikely the later would reduce me to space spaghetti, so I'm still just most focused on cataclysmic failures of the black-hole variety. :D
