SERIOUSLY?!

THEY'VE NOW BLOCKED ALL SHOPPING SITES AT WORK.

There's not enough capslock rage to express how I feel. That's right - Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Woot - ALL BLOCKED.

There is nothing left to entertain me. The Amazon forums were my last bastion of contact with the outside world. I have to wonder if my back-door entry into LJ will even work when I do bring my jump drive in tomorrow.

$50/mo for a data card from T-mobile for unlimited internet access is sounding really, really, really, REALLY tempting now. $50/mo is a lot of money, but it's not much for my sanity. It's not much when the alternative is telling work to shove it.

I could check out the phones again, but that's $40/mo for access with them, I'd honestly rather pay the extra $10 and have real, full access with my laptop.

So long as an employee is capable of doing the job asked of them in an effective and efficient manner, so what if they spend the interim time online? There is only so much brain power and energy that an employer can suck from a person, why torture them by blocking sites?

Who in the company is pushing for this hyper-vigilance? It's one thing to not want employees to be wasting time, but...
-treating intelligent, capable, educated employees like wayward children doesn't really create a good work environment
-given how much time people spend at work, is it really too much to ask to be able to order things from Amazon during a lunch break?
-are they really expecting to see a change in productivity?

It seems quite ridiculous, I would think it would eventually backfire on them, in fact, isn't that what studies have shown?

I also think that people really underestimate employees' ability to multitask... I may have LJ pulled up the entire day, but glance at it in between tasks, or as I'm waiting for something to print, or on hold on the phone, a minute here and there... yes, it adds up, but, it's usually piggybacking all the other things I'm doing too.

Give proxycondom.com a whirl - unless the bastards have blocked that too.

Have you tried using a journal client like Semagic or something? Last I looked at their changenotes (nerd, I know) I think I remember seeing something about it now being able to like work straight off a usb or something.
