I don't know what to get Mr. Smeddley for our anniversary. It's too late to order anything from ThinkGeek or anything, so I have to think of something available at the local Quickie Mart. And I just can't think of anything he wants! I can tell him to go ahead and order the Dune books in hardcover (he likes hardcover books, weirdo), but that's not much of a present. We pretty much just buy books. And there aren't any movies or games he wants that he hasn't bought. So that leaves... the big ticket items.

Yes, my present was kind of a big ticket item, something I wouldn't have bought for myself. And I'm looking to spend about the same (or a little more) for a present for him, the only problem is that the only things he wants (that we haven't bought) are at least 4x as much. I know he wants a new Mac laptop ($2000) and an Aston Martin DB9 ($172,950). While one is far more likely than the other, still a little more than I wanted to spend at the moment. At least until the stove is paid off and we've gotten some of the other debt down.

I am at a complete loss. And he just says that I never buy him an anniversary present (which is true) and that it's okay. But it's not, I really do want to get him something. If I can't think of anything before lunchtime... I don't know what I'll do. I could... I could buy him a big bag full of yarn! No, think about it, it really *is* a present for him, it keeps me out of his hair and lets him play the Star Wars game on the DS... ;)

Have you considered a hooker?

Hmmm. The iPod Touch is $300 or so, and it's kind of like a Mac laptop in miniature.

I used to browse around this site a lot for ideas:

There's also [livejournal.com profile] giving_ideas for homemade, sentimental things.

If you don't have time to shop and buy a big item, what about an experience... a weekend away filled with activities the two of you enjoy; a night out with all the fixings (not just dinner); a camping trip; an out of town trip for a ballgame... then you can buy a small item to represent the experience and give him a card explaining it.

Do you have a Brookstone nearby? That's always good to get a big ticket item that is a bit of a luxury, things that you would love to have, but won't buy yourself.

How about a new HDTV? You can get a nice one for under a grand.

BTW, that bacon thing...was just too funny.

If there's still time to knit something, you could make him something really cool to make a present like the Dune books more personal and unique? Like, um, a book-cosy or... something? :D?

And it could have something cool on it, like... does his family have a family crest? Or do you have a couples' song you could knit the notes into? Or if sunsets or moths or... or blue-tongued lizards or something are extra-special to you, you could knit on a picture of one of them? That kind of thing.
