+ Tension at the Royals game last night - something was going on between Ramirez and Torrealba, I don't care what they're telling the media. It was weird. Also 14 strikeouts and an umpire taken to the hospital to be stitched up after a maple bat splintered and struck him. Is this the death knell for maple bats? The nail in their coffin? (Or, I suppose, from the maple tree's point of view, their salvation?)

+ I hold in my hands a paper-and-ink copy of Twilight. I was planning on napping today (the Royals game did run a bit long) but this might trump it. I don't know why I'm looking forward to reading a hilariously bad book, but I am. Maybe I just want to be a part of the club, get the in-jokes. *nods* Baaaaaaa

+ I see now that I was right to skip all of those scenes in romance novels for so many years. They are bad. Some (especially the ones that try harder to be... more... expressive?) worse than others. But mostly just bad. Recently sporked in the comm was Beatrice Small, and I got a few of her books from the library. Oh, are they ever bad. Perhaps not 'bacon hole' bad, but pretty bad. There may be quotes later.

+ Comcast web mail is no longer working for me. I tried to log in on-line at the library, and it just kept saying I had a bad password. And yet it's the same password Outlook is using to download my mail. Stupid net mail. *grump* I had this problem awhile ago, and went through the hassle of changing the password, and it worked for awhile. But now it seems broken again, and I'm not going to change my password every few months. I have enough problems keeping them straight as it is!

+ New at-bat song proposed (previously mentioned was 'All I Need is a Miracle' for those struggling at the plate): Hit Me Baby One More Time for those recently plunked. Added to the 'you lost a clubhouse bet' list (previously heard: Barbie Girl): Yummy Yummy Yummy I've Got Love in My Tummy, I Feel Like a Woman, Love Shack, I Want Candy, Dude Looks Like a Lady, and I'm a Little Teapot. Also anything by Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Debbie Gibson (and other mall teeny-boppers), or Madonna.

I have read your entire post, and yet one detail drives every other from my mind.

"Bacon hole"?!

Oh yes!* (http://community.livejournal.com/weepingcock/162803.html#cutid1) Though it is satire, and intended, it's still funny.

Bacon hole? Do tell. I may have missed that one.

I do the same thing with the Romance books my sister gives me. If the love scenes are decent, I'll attempt to read the book.

I've come across some that are just...horrid. I don't understand how they get published. But, you've heard my rant on that. LOL

Here it is, enjoy! (http://community.livejournal.com/weepingcock/162803.html#cutid1) Not safe for work, btw. ;)

I've read a lot of tripe I don't understand getting published. :( It rankles that those people get things published and I'm pretty sure I'd have to sell my soul to get anything done...

I'm reading Twilight again.

Since I know its a young adult/teenage market targeted book (or at least that's what I would market it as) I try and read it in that frame of mind. Its not too bad I guess, at least I can read it unlike some other books I have struggled through the first paragraph and then had to toss it aside.

And bacon hole????

I'm not a literary snob by any means (I did like Harry Potter!), but Twilight is annoying me. I think because it's written in a pseudo-intellectual 'snotty' tone (as opposed to HP's very conversational tone) and it rubs me the wrong way.

In looking for this link, I found that evidently it's not that uncommon of a term... sadly... (http://community.livejournal.com/weepingcock/162803.html#cutid1)

It could be the first person angle as well.

You're very right, it could be. I've found that I tend to get annoyed by too much first person.

...and yet I like writing in first person.

Go figure.

(and so sorry about the link, but you asked!
