I vaguely remember my dream last night. Or, rather, early this morning, in the brief snatches of sleep between the snooze alarm (which I hit for an hour, again - yes, every 6 minutes for an hour, go me).
I'd decided to walk to work. Obviously, this is a stupid move because it's 14 miles to work from my house, but let's not let reality creep in here. That's what I decided to do, and I set off. I'm not sure how far I was supposed to have walked when I found myself walking and chatting with another woman on the road outside my old townhouse. Note: this would not be the way to get to work from my house, unless I was taking a very, very, very circuitous route. But I accepted (as you do in dreams) that I was, regardless of all evidence to the contrary, on my way to work. Anyway, suddenly she screams 'mud!' and runs in the opposite direction. I look up the sidewalk and see what appears to be water rolling down the sidewalk towards me. It's thick, brown water, but nothing too terrible. And then it begins to rain. I panic (because I've never been rained on before? I have no idea - I'm the kind of person who never carries and umbrella and calmly walks through the rain, so this was odd) and take off my shoes (at this point I realize I was not only stupid enough to try to walk to work but that I was doing it in four-inch heels. Go me) and start running to the gas station on the corner. The inside is not like the gas station that's actually there, it's smaller, but again, who can quibble details in a dream? So I'm standing there wondering what to do. I shop, have some breakfast (muffins and coffee), and realize I'm going to be late to work. In point of fact it's now 11 am and I was supposed to have been at work 4 hours earlier. So, again, a little panic. Should I call and tell them what happened? Should I say I'm coming it or not? I don't quite know what to do. Then two guys I work with show up. I contemplate getting a ride with them, even talk to them, but in the end decide to walk over to Mr. Smeddley's place of work and borrow his car (a smart move, actually, considering the driving of one of them...). I pull a poncho out of my bag (don't we all carry one? Okay, I'll give my brain the fact that I was carrying one last night at the Royals game, since they gave a 50% chance of rain and our seats aren't quite under the overhang) and go to pay for my food (this part is weird and fuzzy, since I was trying to pay but didn't know what I'd bought? And I kept setting my poncho down and had to keep wandering around picking it back up). It seems to me that I was going to take half a day off anyway, and never really wanted to go in to work in the first place (what's new?) so this decision seemed logical. And, in fact, this is the only part of the dream that is logical with regards to time and geography. But I digress. So I set out to walk over there and suddenly... I'm in the same parking lot, but along the other side. Mr. Smeddley is there for a moment, and gives me his car keys. Then he... disappears. He's back at work, and I know this the way you know dream facts. You just do. So I take the car, only it's not our car - it's a cross between a very old, antique car they drove on Top Gear (if you saw the episode, it was the one they couldn't stop that had the very literal translation of the manual) and the tow truck (mostly the rusty part) from Cars. And I remember thinking, 'Blimey, that thing's looking rough for a five-year-old car, we're going to have to replace it sooner than I thought, hopefully the Mustang will survive because we can't have two car payments right now!' (Speaking of, the Mustang is making a bit of a squealing noise. Harrrumph) Anyway, it's weird to drive, nothing is like a normal car ("all while pulling on the lever of Embriage" ), it won't stop, and I'm trying to thread it through the people and the cars in the parking lot all while pressing down on a brake that's doing nothing. And panicking. I seem to do a lot of that in this dream. And that's when I finally woke up!
So... I'm guessing this dream is telling me budget be damned I need to go buy me a new car, right? Right? Or is it that I should change careers? Ooooh, quit my job and buy a new car?
...or just go to a spa and have a mud bath?

I absolutely LOVED that clip. I think I'm going to have to buy a couple of DVD sets of Top Gear for my dad for a gift. I think he'd love it.

But yeah, I love that show! I tell everyone that even if you're not a car fan it's great fun.
