Okay, so it wasn't really darning - it was just sewing. But at least my toe isn't sticking out a hole anymore! Why is it that all of my black socks end up with holes in the big toe area? Is there something that stresses the fabric more when you dye it black? Does the shear amount of color weaken it? Because I've noticed that all of the socks I have with holes in the toes are black socks - and, yes, they are the thinner dress socks, but my thin white and multi-colored socks don't seem to have a problem. It's weird. Perhaps I wear them more often, since I have fewer black socks? But still, that doesn't seem like reason enough. I don't know.

Reason #1978532 it's good to have a sewing kit at work.

Things of interest (or not):
(just pretend they are real bullet points)

* I have a hard time distinguishing 'j' and 'g' when the letter is spoken (as when people spell things at me). I don't know why. But I really have to think about it.
* Chapters 12, 13, and 14 are reviewed (of interest to only one person, sure, but still).
* POSTCARDS ARE AWAY! (Some yesterday, some today) I... uh, don't remember who all I sent them to. So, if in a few days you don't get one, and you want one, request one!
* I can swallow my multi-vitamin, two calcium, two flaxseed oil and two gelatin capsules all at once.
* Eating breakfast in the morning not only seems to upset my stomach, but is exhausting. No, really, I was half-way through a bowl of cereal this morning and my jaws were just tired and sore. I gave up (luckily Mr. Smeddley was still awake - yes, still - and finished it for me so I don't feel bad about wasting the food. Though he didn't make me coffee *pout*)
* I'm having Chinese food for lunch.
* I somehow went from #7 to #8 on the holds list for Twilight. Maybe I will listen to the audiobook, after all. Goodness knows when the book will be in! They'll be more snark if I do listen to it, though, since I can (sort of) listen and type at the same time, as opposed to having to put down the book to write down something snarky.
* I'm bored. Entertain me.

But that's crazy! One of them has a diphthong, dude.
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:33 pm (UTC)
*shrugs* I don't know! I have no problem reading them or knowing which to use (reading or writing) but my brain adds... I dunno, white noise or something when people say 'gee' or 'jay' and I have to concentrate and think about which to write down. There's a subtl disconnect between my hearing and my cognative abilities there. :(
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:36 pm (UTC)
How about "tea and tay" or "see and say"?

I have a lot of difficulty with f and θ (free and three), but that's less crazy than you. =p
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:41 pm (UTC)
Nope, no problems there. Just those two letters, and ONLY when they're spoken as letters only. If they're in a word (like 'gay' and 'jay') I have no problems at all.

Three free! :P Nope, sorry, that's weird!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:46 pm (UTC)
You say "g" as "gay"? I say it as "gee".
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:53 pm (UTC)
No, when I say the letter I say 'gee', but I was trying to think of an example of similar words when I said 'I don't confuse them in a word, just when the letters are by themselves'.

So I have no problems distinguishing 'gay' and 'jay' (or 'gem' and 'jam'), and I know which is used in them, but I have a hard time grasping the difference between 'gee' and 'jay' when spoken as if spelling out something.
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:58 pm (UTC)
Yeah, but, because the consonant sound in "gee" is the same as in "jay", I was assuming that it was the vowerl sound that was screwing you over, thus why I was asking about see and say (in my accent, anyway).
Friday, June 20th, 2008 05:33 pm (UTC)
It's not that I can't tell them apart (I have no problems with 'see' and 'say', either). It's that my brain cannot make the connection that:
'gee' = g
'jay' = j

I know they're two different things, I just have to think really hard about which pairs up with what.

So if someone was spelling something I didn't know (like a funky e-mail address) and said:
"That's 'eff' 'are' 'que' 'tee' 'gee'." I'd be fine writing 'frqt', but when I got to the last letter my brain would freeze on 'g' or 'j'. Does that make any sense, or do I just seem even weirder now?

That's freaky.

YOU'RE CRAZY. YOU'RE A FREAKY LADY WITH A CRAZY BRAIN!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 05:38 pm (UTC)
Thank you!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:29 pm (UTC)
Three at once?! Should I sit down before reading them?
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:34 pm (UTC)
I don't think so. If 10 and 11 didn't kill you you'll be fine. Actually, these seemed to be a lot of dialogue and, for the most part, I have the least comments on the dialogue. See, there I could have been nice and said 'because you do well with that, the characters interact well and play off one another' but no, I had to phrase it in the least complimentary way possible. Huh.

Let's discuss this behavior.
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:38 pm (UTC)
sh'mon

Sorry. In support of synchronicity theory, Tattles was JUST playing Michael Jackson's "Bad" before you sent this.
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:42 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry.

However, now 'I'm fat' by Weird Al is running through my head. Thank you so very much. *adds more red*

He played that right after it!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:54 pm (UTC)
The song isn't bad, but the mental images I'm getting remembering the video.... *shudder*
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:43 pm (UTC)
Alas, despite how undeniably riveting my day to day life tends to be, I've got nothing. I'm bored too. Why don't you entertain ME? More posts, quick now!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 04:57 pm (UTC)
I... I... OH THE PRESSURE!

*wibble*

I was going to post something, but doing screenshots at work the only way I can save pictures (without losing color, clarity, etc) is as a tiff. And then I can't upload them until I convert them, and I can only do that at home. So I have the pictures for the next Snerffle round, but I can't post them until later. :( Oh, what I wouldn't give for full access to the internet and all my programs...
Friday, June 20th, 2008 05:03 pm (UTC)
Excuses!

Ah well. I guess I should be sweeping the floor or doing the laundry or any of that other stuff I don't feel like doing, anyway. Fianna is watching 101 Dalmations and doesn't want to entertain me (which one of us is the three-year-old, I sometimes wonder...).
Friday, June 20th, 2008 05:35 pm (UTC)
I have to do laundry tonight, too. I'm pretty sure there's no question that if I could have a robot do one chore - and only one chore - around the house that it would be the laundry. It's so time-consuming and annoying, because everything just gets dirty again!

Are the shoes you wear the black sock with different in how they rub?

I'm determined to make jam and jelly this summer, and just came across a recipe for vanilla pear jelly, and I'm terribly excited about it. It's like the highlight of my week, which means my life is in need of some excitement.

I miss Snerfflebarglast, I really do. I should go back and look at a couple of rounds that I had been stumped by.

Yesterday I was watching clips of Top Gear on the web at work. You are a bad influence. Cars and motors are not my thing, but those guys are so entertaining, interesting, and funny.

I'll try to think of some entertainment.... I'm bored too.
Saturday, June 21st, 2008 04:09 pm (UTC)
Yes, and that could play into it, too. SO many variables!

I was going to make cranberry scones today, but I'm not sure I should be allowed to do anything. It seems to be a horrid day so far. :/

I'll do a bunch of links when I post the new round, as well as a scoretable. I guess I could work on that today, but my computer would probably blow up or something.

I love Top Gear so much! And, yeah, I'm not a huge car freak, but they make it so much fun!
Friday, June 20th, 2008 06:24 pm (UTC)
I have a darning egg.
Saturday, June 21st, 2008 04:09 pm (UTC)
Why am I dying of not surprise? ;)

Entertainment for that last hour of the workday (or do you leave at 4pm?)

Nietzsche Family Circus (http://www.losanjealous.com/nfc/perm.php?c=86&q=19)

Games (http://10til5.com/)

Reading Material (http://www.angelazeman.com/index.html)

I do leave at 4, and half the internet is blocked at work. :/ They suck.

Those links are great, though! I can probably do the reading one at work. Blobular is frighteningly addictive...
