Please explain to me how, on a cloudy day while sitting in the shade, I can turn bright red? I know I've avoided the sun lately (like, the last 15 years) and for the most part can rival the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man when it comes to whiteness, but seriously!

The only other theory is that it was so hot and humid that exposed skin boiled on contact with the air.

But YAY! the Royals won. And it's a good thing I took a little bit of a nap yesterday when we got home, because I certainly didn't get much sleep last night. It might as well have been daylight for the continuous flashes of lightning outside.

Interesting fact: look at the picture and notice the round, sloping shoulders. I cannot carry a purse or bag on my shoulder without holding it up because it will slip right off. Bloody annoying, it is. Unless it's really really heavy, then it will stay in place. But mostly? Nope, just keeps slippin' off. 'Purse keeps on slippin'... onto the pavement...'

Well, it's not striped, but that's a pretty impressive sunburn nontheless. Good work!

I'm just glad I wasn't wearing a necklace with a big pendant. THAT might have come close to equaling stripes!

Yes, be glad you decided not to wear your gold necklace with the PIMP pendant.

Ultra-violet rays suck. It's the ultra part that's the worst. That's how they get past clouds and shade. Sneaky rays.

I would definitely be wearing high0necked shirt to work for awhile if I had!

Stupid 'Ultra'. Ah, well, at least they're not 'X-TREME'. That would be even worse...

Or Mondo.

Bad luck? Crappy genetics? Despite my paleness I don't usually burn easily, but I'm frying like crazy now because of pregnancy hormones. I actually got pink last week being outside for half an hour WHILE WEARING 45 SPF SUNSCREEN!

Stupid sun.

If I allowed myself to tan I do a decent job, despite my natural paleness. But I've embraced the pasty look, so it's a shock to my system when I do get too much sun at once.

Well, hopefully your skin will get back to normal after the kid is born! Hopefully... ;)

B/c cloudy days are the easiest to get burned on (something about the rays bouncing between earth and clouds) and you're vulnerable even in the shade.

Ouches. My sympathies.

And I have the same sort of shoulders. Bra straps and purse straps alike... they all fall down.
Saturday, June 14th, 2008 04:44 pm (UTC)
I have learned! And I think it was because I was in a stadium made of concrete - the rays are more likely to bounce there than say, off the grass if you're sitting under a tree in a park.

You know my pain on the strap thing! No one who doesn't have them can understand what a pain it is. And I'm always yelling at Mr. Smeddley when he carries, say, a camera by the strap over his arm because I'm afraid it will fall off and break (as it would it I tried it). But he has very wide shoulders, nothing ever falls off them. *is jealous* Not that I want wide, manly shoulders, I'd just like to be able to carry things...

What [livejournal.com profile] gelsey said :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunburn - you have light toasting compared to some of those folks.

Are you like me and burn when you look out the window, turn bright red and then fish-belly white? Or do you actually go a nice color?

Great, now I know that if I don't wear sunscreen, I'll get cancer. If I do wear sunscreen, I'll get cancer. There's a constant there... O.o

I've never had, as far as I can remember, a sunburn that blistered like that.

I don't usually burn very easily (the game was over 3 hours long, plus walking to and from, shopping, and walking the dog), especially if I've spent some time out int he sun (which I don't do any more). I will revert to very pale because I believe in using what equates to sandpaper on my skin in the shower, so I scrub all the tan out, then avoid the sun some more. My arms are always a little tan, but that's the only part of me. Genetically (looking at my parents) I have a predisposition to tan very nicely.

This photo is somehow very sexy...nice cleavage!

Does your burn turn to tan? Or does it just start to peel?
Saturday, June 14th, 2008 04:51 pm (UTC)
Sexy and sunburned are two words I'd never put together! ;)

"Oh, darling," he said huskily, reaching for her. His hand closed over her upper arm and she winced at the contact. "You're so hot," he moaned, dipping his head to kiss the bright red skin on her neck. She yelped and jumped back.

"I said you could help me put aloe on my sunburn, that was not code for anything else!" she snapped.

But thank you. :)

You're quite the minx with these subtle pictures - some hair here, a glimpse of neck there. I known you long enough to say without question that you're beautiful.

Oh! I'm feeling content with the world today!

:)

Hurrah for good bras! After a certain age, they're the only things that help... :D

It will turn to a tan, I'm already a lot less red, and it's now only sore around the edges. I moisturize a lot, though, so that probably helps.

I still remember the only time I ever burned my forearms. I spend the day sitting on a wall waiting for my turn in the bridge building competition for the ASCE Western Conference. It was solid gray all day.

Of course, then there's the story of my college graduation. It was solid gray at the start, and then we got stuck in the sun for hours (stupid speaker). My roomate had the same pattern as you do, only she was wearing a big pendant.
Saturday, June 14th, 2008 04:56 pm (UTC)
I'm really glad I was wearing a small pendant on a thin chain! At least it was an even burn?

Man, burning your forearms is tough - probably because they're exposed so often. That sun and its rays are sneaky bastards. :(

I have to go plant some stuff today, I'm thinking of waiting until 7 or so, when the sun is going down (since I slept through my chance to do it this morning!). I don't need a nice matching burn on my back!

"Please explain to me how, on a cloudy day while sitting in the shade, I can turn bright red?"

Um...because you're a redhead?
Saturday, June 14th, 2008 04:58 pm (UTC)
I'm not, really! I think it's just that I've shunned the sun for so long it's getting back at me. Maybe I inadvertently pissed of the sun god?

Oh, and you should totally name the cat after an Egyptian god, since they revered cats. :D

YAYAYAYAY for someone else with shoulders unable to hold anything!!
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 02:14 am (UTC)
Another member of the slope-y shoulders society! Sweet!

Man, it is so freakin' annoying. :(
