Why is it I always have that huge moment of buyer's remorse when I buy things online? Not little things, like books or DVDs, but anything electronic. It seems so much safer buying those things in the store. Like, you know, the Xbox. I'm pretty sure I couldn't have handled buying that on-line, even if it was a better deal (and forget about Ebay, the chances of me buying anything used there is precisely... zero. I just don't trust.). Luckily, there were no better deals on the Xbox, it was the same price everywhere. Thus, we bought it at my least favorite store in the universe so we could get our reward points and free money. Yay.
But now, today, I bought a lawnmower. Yes, on-line. Just now, in fact. And I'm feeling nervous and out-of-sorts. Funny thing, it wasn't even a spur-of-the-moment decision. We have a corded electric mower (we bought it when we bought the house) and just yesterday as we were working on the lawn he was complaining about the cord, blah, blah, blah. He said we should get a gas mower, and I said absolutely not. One, they're worse for the environment. Two, they're noisy as all get out. Three, I hate the smell of gas and I don't want to have to store it. Four, it offers the all-to-convenient excuse 'I don't have any gas' for not mowing the lawn. And five, they require more maintenance, and since it's a crapshoot if we even get the oil in the cars changed regularly, what are the chances of taking car of a lawnmower?
Plus I like the really easy on/off of the electric mower. Need to pick up something in your way? Let go of the handle, the mower goes off, pick it up. Ready to mow? Just press down the handle and off you go! Not to mention an electric mower weighs about a third of what a gas one does. That's a lot less effort to push it around the yard. Frankly, he's lucky I don't make him use the old-fashioned push mower! (Just kidding... sort of)
But still, I know it's a pain to deal with the cord so I did offer to buy a battery-powered electric mower. We have a small yard and rarely do both the back and front on the same day, anyway, so it should work. We may have to clean out the garage so we have a place to store it plugged in, though. Perhaps a job for this weekend? Anyway, Amazon offered pretty much the one I was going to buy anyway for $50 less than I could find it for around here, and they'll even deliver it to my door. So why do I feel bad about it? Go figure.
* Also, why do I know the words to the country song 'John Deere Green'?! Why?!

I'm interested to hear how this new one works out. I don't really like the cord, but it's way better than having to worry about maintaining (and listening to) a gas mower.

My parents just got a new mower, but it's the gas kind. My dad said it was over $6 just to fill the two-gallon tank. :/ Admittedly, I have no idea how long those two gallons will last, but still. If that's not reason to switch, I don't know what is.

The lawn doesn't get mowed very often.
