Really, if just that chunk of Topeka could legally be declared not part of Kansas, I'd really be much less ashamed of living here.

In other news, our 'company' has instituted a policy of sick-leave buyback, if you have X amount banked AND you don't take any for a year (Actually it's a sliding scale, if you take none you can buy back 56 hours, if you take 8 hours or less you can buy back... less, and so on) you can get paid for your sick leave. And yet, it's also policy that you are not allowed to come in to work until you've been fever-free for 24-hours. Mixed signals, much?

I foresee half of the people not caring/bothering and going about using sick leave as normal. Unfortunately, some people will want the extra cash so much they'll come to work sick and infect the rest of us, leading to more sick leave than before.

Why does the pessimist in me think there’ll be something awful like an outbreak of meningitis? That'd suck.

The San Fernando Valley has been trying to ceced from LA for years. Ain't worked yet, and they aren't even trying to get away from the state. I wish you luck, but doubt your success. Sorry.

As for the health care policy, pardon me while I gag at yet another idiotic idea from the burocracy.

I don't know, the dislike of Phelps is pretty strong. If anything could get part of the city 'kicked out' of the state, that would be it. Especially if that would allow up to erect a 'Berlin Wall' around the block so people didn't have to suffer seeing those 'protestors' all the time.

I know they probably think there's 'abuse' of sick leave going on, but... I don't think there's any way to atop that without causing even more problems.

I'm one of those horrible people that is always there unless I'm literally on my death bed.

However, I always come doped up to the gills with meds and don't cough on anyone.

I think there's a line - when I worked in the service industry, I showed up no matter what, because people were counting on me and if I wasn't there they had to pick up my slack. So, spreading disease, maybe, but also causing less upheaval in a way.

Here, no one is hurt if I'm gone, so I'm sure they'd rather I stayed at home and didn't bring nasty stuff into the office. And I think it depends what kind of illness. Sure, there are times I stay home because my allergies are making my head feel like it's about to explode. Could I come to work? Well, maybe. I'd be a hazard on the road, but I'm not infectious. Is there a point to coming in, other than terrorizing motorists? Not really, because I can't see straight and wouldn't get anything done. But, again, none of my co-workers are put out by my absence.

At that point I think you need to form a sick people vigilante posse and jump the sickies and send them home! Haha.

Seriously, the things people (and especially those with young kids!) bring in to the office makes me shudder. A few months ago we all passed around a horrible hacking cough, and that was WITH people taking time off to recover!

I was hoping my duckies would have come yesterday so I could bribe you. :( No joy on the quack, though.

Bribe me? To do what, pray tell?

Take me to trivia, 'sponsor' me, if you will. ;) Let me leech off your social life. That sort of thing.
