So we got me a new computer, and it's way faster (something about quad something and we upgraded to 3 gigs of ram) and it seems to actually work, but...

I knew I was going to have to transfer all the files over, I was prepared for that. The things you forget is how much customization you've done over the years. All the little things you've changed to suit your preferences. All gone. And I forgot to save my bookmarks, so I might hook the old computer back up (we even have an extra monitor!) and get that. Otherwise I have to try to remember them and fetch them all. Oh, and of course there's installing all the programs again. *groan* That'll be a joy.

And the best part of all?

~*~VISTA~*~

But I'm tough, I can handle it. And there are some neat widgets I can use now, so that might balance out the annoyances.

The best part? Between the computer and the memory, the bill came to $666.66, which translates into $6.66 cash back on the Discover card. My computer is evil. ~.^ (though we do get a rebate on the memory so I'm not sure how that effects the whole thing)

Haha, a year ago my new computer set me back $2400. But I think we may have had slightly different visions for our new computers. ;)

I go cheap on purpose, since we seem to have to replace them so often! All I need is a computer that plays games like Bejeweled and hooks up to the internet. Oh, and a word-processing program and little photo editor. And... nope, that's it! That's all I want. I *could* have gone a little cheaper (there was one for $300) but Vista does require so much more memory and it would have cost almost as much to upgrade that one, why not pay a little extra and get something 10x better!

(Not that I didn't drool a little over the $1,700 CPUs and $800 monitors - I already have a good monitor, and I really don't need that much power!)

Well, I don't have a total gaming monster machine, but I wanted a really good graphics card for Civ IV and WoW, and a really awesome new monitor, and some really awesome new speakers and really awesome new EVERYTHING. And then I got more birthday money than I'd expected and upped the graphics card just 'cause. =3 =3 =3

(Don't ask me how much PippinBook cost. MAN I'm so glad I didn't pay for that.)

If I could have saved money by not getting a keyboard and mouse, I would have. Just a CPU, thank you!

And, actually, I could be wrong but I think hubby did, or was planning on, cannibalizing my old machine and putting the (not too shabby) graphics card in this one, which is one of his old ones, so it's not bad at all. So I probably have much more computer than I will ever use. I admit I've regressed to the 'just make sure it works when I turn it on' dependence. I used to be able to take computer apart and fix them and all that, but why bother when someone else will do it for you? I'm sure I could if I had to, but I don't! I can save my time for crocheting octopodes!

So how much was PippinBook? ;)

...PippinBook cost more than I have ever had in my bank account at once.

I once had an obscene amount of money in my bank account. (well, for me)

Then I bought a house. :/

Yay new computer!

What brand/whatever did you get? I need to recommend something cheap but workable to my parents, because our ancient desktop finally did the right thing and DIED. Though I think they're looking at laptops instead of desktops ...

First thing I'm saving for when I get a job is a new desktop computer ...

I got a Gateway/E-Machines with an AMD chip (cheaper than Intel, and I've never had a problem). I'd say it's a good middle-of-the-road machine, good for most light to medium computing.

I'm getting tired of getting new computers! It seems like all we've been buying lately is new computers!

Well, I know all my parents will want it for is Word documents (mum wants to make her recipe book!), internet (just plane tickets and email, basically), and perhaps some small games (cards, etc).

I wish I could get new computers! I want one but of course there's no way I can afford one right now.
