Curses to people who come to work sick. A pox on their house, I say! Of course, then they'd just bring the pox to work, so that would kinda suck. Anyway!

I'm home all achy (yet strangely fidgety) and tired and stuffy. Luckily, it no longer feels like I have a marble lodged in my throat, so maybe I'm getting better.

Not much has been going on. So why post, you ask, other than the obvious trolling for sympathy? Well, I'm glad you mentioned trolling! A recent blitzkrieg of spam-age by a now-suspended account (some sort of contest link, and it's something like their fifth go-around with a different name), which initially had some hilariously sporked HTML (can you imagine going through and carefully spamming 160 communities with broken HMTL? How embarrasing!) meaning they had to go through and re-post every single entry, led me to the community [livejournal.com profile] trolltasticisms. Your one-stop shop to keep up-to-date on all of your trolling needs. Well, it's pretty small right now, but it at least gives some heads-up.

Of course, it will never replace fandom wank for your LOL needs, which is where I was first introduced to the Cassie Edwards debacle. The whole thing is sad, and even sadder are the people defending her. I really haven't seen much snark from Smart Bitches, which, considering what they could do with it, shows restraint. And I agree with a lot of the posters - romance already gets a bad rap, this needs to be dealt with swiftly, sternly, and with public condemnation. And if I want to talk about it until I'm blue in the face, you can't tell me to stop because it's 'just so mean!'. Public figures put themselves in the spotlight, it comes with the territory (just think of all the very person Presidential jokes - not about the job or how he's doing it, but person attacks, and all the fun people make of sports figures and actors before you get all 'whhhahhha! Don't be mean to her!' Please, you are not without sin, I don't know anyone who is, so we will mock if we want to mock thank you very much.) That being said, I do not own a Cassie Edwards book and to my knowledge (faulty memory though it may be) have not read one. I don't know, perhaps I did, but it would have been quite some time ago if I had. Anyway, enough babbling. The whole thing did, at least, get two RSS feeds added to my blog: [livejournal.com profile] dear_author_rwa and [livejournal.com profile] smartromance. So yay for that!

And now I go nap, because cold medication makes me fuzzy and I fear I am no longer making sense ('no longer?' Yeah, no comments from the peanut - or cashew, or walnut - gallery).

What Cassie Edwards debacle? Was she accused of plagiarism or something?

Hope you feel better soon!

"Was she accused of plagiarism or something?"

Just a *little*. And by a *little*, I mean, well, a whole lot. From all sorts of sources, encyclopedias to Pulitzer Prize winning novels.

It's all over the Smarth Bitches (http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/index.php) blog, they have the most comprehensive list of blurbs for comparison (so people can judge for themselves how similar the passages are).

Dang, I'll have to look that up at home. 'Smart bitches' seems to be blocked at work as pornography. :D

Also dang: it seems I'm not getting any of my LJ comments!!! This could present a problem.

Well, the full name of the site is 'Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Books'... so I can see where the mistake would come in. DEFINITELY worth checking out at home though, the whole thing has gotten absurd.

Bugger about the comment e-mails. I hate it when that happens!

You know, not everybody follows this wank stuff. Who is Cassie Edwards, and why does she have a debacle?
Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 09:21 pm (UTC)
She's a very prolific romance author, and many people have recently found many, many passages in her books that bear more than a passing resemblance to passages in other publications previously published by other people.

And that might be the most unintentionally alliterate sentence I have ever written.

She's like Cassie Claire, but better.

Oh, you mean Cassie Clare, whose published writing name is sooo different from her fanfiction name?!

Awww, I hope you get better soon!

I'm sure I will, just one of those crappy cold things. I'll bounce back in a day or two, bemoaning all the lost productivity I *swear* I would have had if I'd been feeling well, knowing full well in my heart I would have loafed on the sofa no matter what. ;)
