It's dreary and rainy and grey out, though - being a lover of the Pacific Northwest - this does not bother me much. Being at work, however, is a real downer. :/

Especially since I'm thinking of all the things I should be doing at home. [livejournal.com profile] tjstein is coming over Saturday to help me with my craft room, and I'd like to not completely embarrass myself with the state of my house. This means some cleaning must take place tonight and tomorrow night. I do, at a minimum, have to make enough room for two people to stand in my craft room!

Hopefully she will help me be (semi)ruthless in my culling. I don't want to get rid of stuff that I see that I might have a use for, but I have to admit there's stuff there that I got in bundles at garage sales that, honestly, I should just get rid of. Sure, I *might* be able to find a use for them, and I'm sure I could think up something, but... Yeah, we all know I'm keeping *all* of it, why do I kid myself? But at least I hope to be able to find things!

Anyone who wants fabric can stop by on Saturday afternoon and try to drag some of it from my hands! ;)

In other news, I'm debating buying a used CD off of Amazon, through a third-party seller. Sure, it would cost me $20, but I've not seen it anywhere and I've wanted it for a long time. I've eaten free leftovers from work for lunch the last three days, that should cover it! I think I shall. I mean, I have been looking in the used sections of stores for *years* now, might as well do it. But that doesn't solve the problem that I have two CDs in my 'cart' from Amazon right now, and I still need to spend $4.04 to get free shipping. What to buy, what to buy... Um... how about some CRAFT SUPPLIES! :D

Hopefully I'll have a story to post this afternoon, too. I need to get back into writing.

What CD is it? Maybe you can *ahem* get it for free.

Babylon AD - the self-titled album. I have it on cassette, but I don't think it's in good enough shape to invest in a USB cassette-to-mp3/cd thingee!

Four dollars and four cents, you say? http://community.livejournal.com/hip_domestics/5461429.html

Shazam.

I find half.com to be more reliable as far as sellers go than Amazon marketplace. Of course it relies on individual sellers, but I've had better experience with half.com.

Wow, that is cool! I shall have to play with that...

There's only one for sale at half.com, and it's a lot more expensive. There's one on Ebay, but, honestly, the whole bidding thing is just such a pain. I know, I'm a weenie.

Ruthless I shall be. Muhahahahaha!

No! No! I take it back! MINE! MINE! *tussles over fabric scraps*

;)
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 04:43 pm (UTC)
Wow. That is...truly evil.

but do you have a shaved pussy cat icon?
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 04:59 pm (UTC)
No, but I have a BOOBIES! icon. Most of my good come-back icons are at home. :( No fair engaging me in an icon war when I'm insufficiently armed!
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 05:05 pm (UTC)
I think you have me, my duct tape double is the closest thing I have to boobies. Icon-wise, that is. I have plenty o' boobies myself.

Plus, you have better icons anyway. And you made about 25% of mine. So you'd still win.

We are getting two new foster kids tonight so I may need to reschedule since I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want me to drag them along.

More on this as I find out some info...

Whee! (for you)

That's fine, I'm flexible. Now, of course, I'm going to not do any cleaning, and with my luck you'll be able to come over and get to see my house in all of its frightening messiness! ;)
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 04:30 pm (UTC)
I can give you book recs! They'll be more than $4, might be more like $7, but that's totally worth not paying shipping.
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 04:32 pm (UTC)
Gimme a few, I'll pick one. I'm game for something I might not ordinarily choose!

Righty, back from NOT going swimming (naturally, I go there the one night they're not open to the public; whyy did I not check online first?), so here are some varied book recs:

The Scar (http://www.amazon.com/Scar-China-Mieville/dp/0345460014/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199990780&sr=8-2) by China MiƩville (weird, dark fantasy, one of my fave books)
His Majesty's Dragon (http://www.amazon.com/His-Majestys-Dragon-Temeraire-Book/dp/0345481283/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199990909&sr=1-1) by Naomi Novik (first in a series of historical fantasy books with dragons! very good fun, I stayed up til 4am reading this one)
Dust (http://www.amazon.com/Dust-Elizabeth-Bear/dp/055359107X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199991040&sr=1-1) by Elizabeth Bear (scifi, haven't read this one yet but it looks pretty cool)
Passarola Rising (http://www.amazon.com/Passarola-Rising-Azhar-Abidi/dp/B000IOETAA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199991198&sr=1-1) by Azhar Abidi (alt. history with two Spanish brothers who invent a flying machine and fly it to various places in the world. 'Quietly fantastical' is how I'd describe it. I really enjoyed this one. For some reason, amazon is selling the hardcover for $7, cheaper than the paperback!!)
The Privilege of the Sword (http://www.amazon.com/Privilege-Sword-Ellen-Kushner/dp/0553586963/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199991342&sr=1-1) by Ellen Kushner. (a girl is trained to use a sword, going against convention, and in the process starts thinking against convention. It's a feminist bildungsroman in an alternate world, and you'd think it'd be a trashy Mary Sue book but it's really, really not (IMO, of course). Distracted me from reality enough that I left my first set of gym clothes on the train, never to be seen again. That's, um... the best endorsement ever, right?)

Hope that's enough to give you some ideas!

I love dreary and rainy and grey.

What is it about crafting that seems to encourage hoarding? I don't even sew much and yet I have an entire small bureau filled with fabric. A huge box of yarn. Two large drawers in another bureau containing various sewing and knitting things, and two small drawers in another containing various miscellaneous craft items. (This also indicates another quirk of my priorities: these things were meant for clothes...)

I have a friend that stored her books in dresser drawers, because it was so very easy to organize them and see all the spins when she pulled out a drawer. So you're not the only one re-purposing furniture!

I think the thing about crafts is that it can always be used for something later. You may not know what yet, but there's some project out there somewhere down the line that you will need it if you decide to do it!

Exactly! Tiny round mirror thing? "I could glue this to something!" Fairy wand with paint on it? "I could turn this into something!"

Does buying from a third-party seller still qualify you for free $25 shipping, considering it's not coming from Amazon itself? Just doublechecking, because I fell prey to that when buying something from Amazon recently.
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 06:46 pm (UTC)
speaking of stories, you still owe me your first "I love you"!!! :D

I love rainy days too.
Thursday, January 10th, 2008 06:50 pm (UTC)
Whoops never mind, that'll teach me to read back thru entries in chronological order :D
Sunday, January 13th, 2008 04:00 pm (UTC)
Actually, that $20 was with shipping (I still haven't ordered it!). It was actually $16-something with $3 shipping from the third party, so completely independent from my other order.

I'm not sure if I like how big Amazon has gotten, it seems there are a lot more complaints recently. But then, like you said, a lot of that stuff isn't coming from Amazon so you have to be careful. :/
