I have way to much to do and am just being lazy. I should go to bed and get some sleep. But at any rate, more questions and answers (original meme and first round of answers)

1) If you weren't a civil engineer, what would you be (career-wise)?
Epidemiologist. The study of disease + the use of statistics, my two loves.

2) What teenage archetype were you in high school? Good girl, nerd, rebel, goth... whatever
I really don’t know. I had a lot of different friends, I was kinda in the middle. I’ve always been an in-betweener, even now. I took the presidential matching quiz and I’m the only person I’ve seen whose blues and reds are mixed together! So in high school I was smart enough to hang with the nerds, but didn’t care enough about my grades – wasn’t passionate about school – to really be one of them. I was laid-back enough for the stoners, but never did drugs. I was even friends with a girl from the drill team, so I guess I was cute and perky enough for that. I was never goth or athletic, though. Oh, and then there was the fact that I was crafty and whatnot even back then, and goodness knows what category that put me in!

3) What kind of electives did you take in college?
We could take electives? Really? Seriously, for my degree there were… three classes they didn’t specify? And they had to be three humanities, two of which were in the same field. I took a philosophy/logic class and two psychology classes (not because I was interested in psychology, but because they were easy and fit into my schedule). Oh, right, and we got to choose two out of three in the ‘other engineering’ category: Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Materials, or and Electrical Engineering class – Circuits? I took the first two. But, honestly, the rest was pretty much laid out for us.

4) When and why did you start your LiveJournal?
Um… mid 2005? A friend at work had one, and I started it on a lark. He’s since left, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

5) What has been the most romantic gesture that someone has made to you?
My hubby bought me a romance novel for Valentine’s Day once – and not from on-line, but actually went to a store and bought it!

1. Of all your hobbies (since you seem to have quite a few) what's your favourite and why?
That’s an unfair question! Because it depends on my mood. That’s why I have so many, because sometimes I feel like doing one thing, and sometimes I feel like doing another. The most useful one, though, the one I’d hate to live without would be sewing. Pillows, drapes, clothes, even upholstery require sewing. So that’s probably my favorite (it encompasses a lot, I know) followed by crochet.

2. You're obviously a dog lover...but how do you feel about cats?
Really? Is it obvious? ;) I don’t mind cats, though I am much more allergic to cats than I am to dogs. They have their up sides (not needing to go out and pee at 4 am) but they also have their down sides (litter boxes). If, for some reason, I could never own a dog again I’d probably get a cat, but given the option I’ll always choose a dog!

3. Were you always a crazy sports fan, or did you come into that madness later in life? ;)
I grew up as a crazy football fan, but the love of baseball came later in life. Also, the college sports came in later. So I’d say the seed was planted young, but I didn’t blossom until my 20s.

4. Do you have any irrational phobias or fears?
Boy, howdy! I sure do. I have a phobia about wasps and refuse to ride in elevators. It makes me nervous when other people lean over railings. Hell, it makes me nervous when people in movies lean over railings! I have a pretty big fear of splatting into the ground at a fatal velocity. Though I’m not sure that’s entirely irrational, but the extremes I take it to probably are. I seriously doubt I could go spelunking or really diving, it’s not that I’m claustrophobic (I could shut myself in a small closet and be fine, I used to do that as a kid) but the fear of not reaching the surface again? Yeah. I’m not afraid of the dark, but the pitch black of being trapped underground… that’s another story. I also have a somewhat irrational fear of skin cancer, hence my uncanny resemblance to the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

5. Are you happy when you're driving, or are you one of those yelling at other drivers, constantly horn-honking, giving people the finger and cursing drivers?
I dislike driving a great deal, but I am not an obnoxious driver. I’m… patient and resigned when driving. The only time I honk is when someone nearly kills me, and I’ve never flipped anyone off as far as I can remember. My cursing of them is limited to a muttered, sad ‘asshole’ under my breath, and only when they’re driving like a bleeding maniac or at 10+ miles per hour under the speed limit.

Oh! Do you remember what the title was?

You really don't ride in elevators? Seriously? I mean, do you just avoid them, or absolutely not ever ride in them?

And yay! A life science! See, I thought so. Right now Bioinformatics is quite a hot field, alas, I didn't HATE statistics (except when crunching my own data and not getting what I needed), but I didn't have that innate ease/talent with statistics that I saw in others. I quite admire that.

I think it was a Johanna Lindsey, it was definitely one of the historical bodice-rippers. No way it could have been mistaken for something else. Actually, I think he bought me two or three, but I don't specifically remember. It was more than 10 years ago!

No, I really don't ride in elevators. I'm just about to post another Q&A in which I admit to walking up over 20 flights of stairs to avoid one. If I absolutely HAVE to, I can, but if there's any way to avoid it I will.

I love statistics so much! And, yeah, they do seem intuitive to me, so I'm lucky in that regard. Most people think I'm weird for liking them, but that's okay. I'm proud of my geekiness!

*shies away in fear from the epidemiology* mainly because I suck at that. >.>

I can't say I've ever done it specifically, I could suck at it too, but it does interest me!

Why do you dislike driving so much? (Curiosity from a non-driver).

Mostly because it's a boring (but necessary) waste of time and 90% of the people on the roads drive like they have their heads up their asses. But other than that it's just lovely! ;)

I'd never give it up, though, because it is the freedom to go wherever you want whenever you want.
