So I'm going through the bookmarks on those pages and picking out (even more! eeep!) projects I like. But I'm really surprised at the number of pages that don't show pictures. I really don't want to make something I don't see a picture of beforehand. Why waste my time making something that could be... god-awful hideous? And believe you me, there are a LOT of spork-in-the-eye (hey, did I tell you I got a spork for Christmas? I need to make a loot post) patterns out there. So I don't know why, when I saw this pattern stitch, I decided to try it. There were some pictures of the procedure, but none of the result. Anywho, this is what it looks like:

And it is the most pain in the ass stitch I've ever had the misfortune of working with. Basically, if you can't decide whether you want to knit or crochet, but want the worst of both, make a blanket out of this stitch.
Original site: Broomstick Lace
1 knitting needle size 50 (I didn't have a size 50 knitting needle, so I used the biggest I had, a 35)
1 crochet hook size K
With A, chain 190, loosely, and work Row 1. 38 patterns
Row 1, Step 1: (See fig 1) Holding needle in left hand, hook in right hand and put loop on hook onto the needle. Working left to right on chain, *insert hook into next ch, draw loop through and, careful not to twist, place this loop on the needle: repeat from * to end of chain. 190 loops on the needle. (I'm not sure what they mean by 'careful not to twist'. I put them on the needle the same way each time, but I don't know if it was 'twisted' or not.)
Row 1, Step 2: (See figs 2, 3, and 4) Working from right to left, slip 5 loops from the needle, turn loops to the right in a group; insert hook through center of group and draw yarn through; careful not to tighten the first loop, ch 1 at top of group, work 5 sc in same space, * sl next 5 loops from pin, turn to right as before, work, 5 sc in center of space of group; repeat from* to end. 38 patterns Fasten off. (Again, 'turn to the right' - what the hell? Turn the front edge to the right? That's what I took it to mean, but I have no idea if that's right or not. And their picture was too small to do any good)
Row 2, Step 1: ( See fig 5) Draw up a loop with next color and place on pin, * working from left to right, insert hook under back loop only of next sc, draw loop through and place on pin; repeat from * to end. 190 loops. (I didn't change colors, so that was a skipped step. And way to go changing 'needle' to 'pin'. Yay for consistency!)
Row 2, Step 2: Same as step 2 of Row 1.
Repeat Row 2, steps 1 and 2 for pattern. Work 1 Row each *B, A, C, A, D, A, E, A, F, A* repeat 3 times, then work , B, A, C, A. Add fringe as desired.
Now I really need to do something productive. I tried something new today, but it really didn't work out. I'll post my crap-tastic results as soon as I figure out something else that *will* work so I can end on a happy note.
Also, I am working on getting those patterns scanned in and posted for
wolffepsyche (and anyone else who wants them).
