Hmmm. It works for me. Maybe it's in how you sing it? I'm going on the version that strings 'partridge' out into three syllables. It's kinda 'par - tri - idge' with a change of tone between the last two. That makes the two syllables in 'haven't' work.

eeeeeh, but you have to not really say the 'v' in 'haven't' and 'haven't' (okay 'haven't' is now officially NOT A PROPER WORD IN MY BRAIN) has more of a rising tone than 'tri-idge' IMHO.

(Also I think 'the tree' is throwing it out because 'the' is a lot softer* than 'pear'.

*I KNOW POETRY TERMINOLOGY LOL)

I don't think I pronounce the 'v' much, it's a soft, smooshy sound, at least with my accent. If LJ would let me make a voice post (it forgot my phone number and I don't remember my pin, so it gives me crap) I'd sing it for you...

In addition to voice posts, they should let you do voice comments! Or I'd totally try to help. :D

Also, I actually learned this version before the proper one (http://mouse.webby.com/bellbird.html)!

I can't see it right now. :( *sigh* Is it time to go home yet?

On the twelth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me:
twelve koalas clowning
eleven lizards leaping
ten dingoes dancing
nine numbats knitting
eight quokkas cooking
seven mice a-marching
six penguins peeping
five croc-o-diles
four pelicans
three lorikeets
two wallabies
and a bellbird in a flame tree

But...but... 'lorikeets' is too many syllables! Unless I'm pronouncing it wrong, it should only be two ('french hen') and rather harsh ones, at that!

Remember, I learned this version first. So I dunno.
