Hmmm. It works for me. Maybe it's in how you sing it? I'm going on the version that strings 'partridge' out into three syllables. It's kinda 'par - tri - idge' with a change of tone between the last two. That makes the two syllables in 'haven't' work.
eeeeeh, but you have to not really say the 'v' in 'haven't' and 'haven't' (okay 'haven't' is now officially NOT A PROPER WORD IN MY BRAIN) has more of a rising tone than 'tri-idge' IMHO.
(Also I think 'the tree' is throwing it out because 'the' is a lot softer* than 'pear'.
I don't think I pronounce the 'v' much, it's a soft, smooshy sound, at least with my accent. If LJ would let me make a voice post (it forgot my phone number and I don't remember my pin, so it gives me crap) I'd sing it for you...
