I need one or two beta readers for my NaNo, which, if you don't know, is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story. It's set up (partially right now) in its own LJ, and I need a few people to read through it and find the worst of the errors and any broken links.

The bad news? I'll need you to do it this weekend, so I can announce it to everyone next week and bask in the adoration.

The good news? As a beta reader, you get the flowchart that shows all the possible paths so you don't miss out on the LOST parody or the fairy orgy.

The bad news? Yes, this means you have to read through every possible path.

The good news? I might just send you something extra-special for Christmas.

Any takers?

I'll read! I miss the Choose-Your-Own Adventure books. I used to read them cover-to-cover so they wouldn't make any sense.

That's what it's like trying to read my Word doc right now. It's so confusing! I'll give you the journal name and the spreadsheet as soon as I'm done - hopefully early Friday evening, but goodness knows at the rate I'm going right now... :(

I liked going through the back of them, picking an ending, and then trying to get to that particular one.

bring it on
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 11:39 pm (UTC)
Do you think you can handle it?
Thursday, November 29th, 2007 01:12 am (UTC)
In da butt!
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 06:38 pm (UTC)
Eeee flowcharts make me wish I could but unfortunately thesis has my ass until December 14th.

It's taking me almost as much time to keep track of the storylines as it is to write it!
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 11:53 pm (UTC)
Using any mindmap software?
Thursday, November 29th, 2007 12:37 am (UTC)
I'm using AutoCAD, actually. It's my all-purpose tool. :D

Best of luck! I haven't talked to you in weeeeeeeks.

(Hah, I'm a moron and my new website design's going to need image maps for the links. WRRRRRRRRRRY!)

I have some projects I have to finish this weekend, BUT...

I might be able to squeeze it in. It would make excellent procrastination. And I love your stuff.

But I also can't promise it will be finished. Sorry. School is trying to kick my arse.

You can see this is a very good reason November is the most horrible month to have NaNo for students. Ugh.

Eh, you've done lots of proofing for me - just sit back and relax, you can read it after the worst mistakes are corrected - I'm sure there will still be some for you! I'm particularly concerned that I keep reverting to past tense.

Second person AND present tense is kicking my butt!
Thursday, November 29th, 2007 03:02 am (UTC)
Okies then :D

I'll point out any leftovers when I get to read it. Which I really do look forward to doing.

Ah, tenses, tenses. They've been attacking me lately too--I'm writing one thing in present tense, but I'm forcing myself to do my [livejournal.com profile] writing_game stuff in past tense. It's killing me.

Second tense would be the killer for me, though.

Alas, alack, I cannot. But yay for choose your own adventure! I want to write one of those one day. I look forward to reading through it!

I would not recommend it as a NaNo project (too convoluted) but it is fun. I love being able to end storylines in really bizarre ways!
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 07:09 pm (UTC)
I'll give it a shot!
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 11:43 pm (UTC)
Cool, I'll probably (the universe willing) get you the info on Friday!

Is it the weekend already? dang

I bought tickets to a Murakami play since I've been reading his silly books end to end non-stop for months. Just when I'd run out of books of his to read including non-fiction work, a local Berkeley Theatre company is producing one of his short stories or two? yay

and sleep

i've not been sleeping

and then i'm cranky very very on the raggy and cranky

Sadly, no. Though it feels like it's been a week already. Two more days of work. Also, two more days of NaNo (eep!).

I feel you on the not sleeping. I've gotten less than five hours the last three nights, and it's really wearing on me. I'm just so tired and unfocused. Blergh.

Dude, I want to. This weekend is already action packed, though. Can I have a link and read it in between packs of action?
Thursday, November 29th, 2007 12:41 am (UTC)
I'll make it public after the first read-through, so never fear, you will get to read it! If you want a sneak preview, I guess I can do that...

Mostly the beta testers are going to have to do some slogging, making sure all my linky things work. I don't expect the writing to ever be perfect, but I can aim to not embarrass myself!

31,300 now! Whooo-hooo!

MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!!!!!

It will make an awesome birthday present for me *wink*

I'll try and get through it all before the end of the weekend, even if it kills me.

Just so you know, I will be going out drinking on Saturday evening...

But I still want to read it, pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?
Thursday, November 29th, 2007 06:48 am (UTC)
I'd love to read it, but I know myself well enough to know that there's no way I'd finish it this weekend.
