So I'm sorry I've been so absent and completely shirking all of my duties (icontests, commenting, all that good stuff). I promise to get back on the wagon tonight, I have a repreive in that they plumber/electrician won't be out until next week. So I can take at least a few days off the basement.

Over the last week I've spent more than 20 hours painting, let alone all the other crap. I'm going to go home and just lay on the carpet and stare at the room tonight (assuming the carpet installation goes well - fingers crossed).

I HAVE NOT forgotten packages, icons, poems or drabbles. I WILL get those things done by the end of Thanksgiving weekend. I promise.

BUT! You can win an octopus! All you have to guess is what 'tool' I was using and what I was using it for when I hurt my hands:

(the injures are more akin to carpet burns than scrapes, and are in almost exactly the same place on both hands)

Hints: it's a fairly common household item, often depicted being used for something it's not intended for. I was also not using it for its intended use. It's more likely to be found in a kitchen than a toolbox.

I was beginning to worry about where you'd wandered off to! Glad to know you're okay.

Ouches, those look like they hurt. My only guess is obviously not right so I'm not even going to put it. As much as I love the octopi, I really have no good guesses.

Hope everything starts to go better. Hugses.

It hurt when I did it, but it's getting better. I'm guessing nobody will actually get it, just because... but then, if you know what I've been doing, it is a recommended 'tool' to use... so maybe!

It's been so hectic lately, I just want to sleep for a week. But no rest for the wicked, I at least have to do laundry tonight...

The only kitchen things I've ever used outside of the kitchen are the knives (both sharp and butter) and a spoon or two and a spatula. And I don't think I knife did that.

Things have been surprisingly hectic on my end as well. Must be the moon or something. Do try to get some rest, though.

Yeah, I've felt bad about not commenting on your entries, though I have been reading! *hands you e-cookies*

It's not something most people would ever use outside of the kitchen, and, frankly, it's not very commonly used anymore, anyway. Probably more common back in the 'perfect 50s' that never really happened...

Don't feel bad! I've just been whining a lot. Nothing major or anything.

Hmmmm.

I'm going to think on it some more...

I was wondering why you were so mysteriously absent from my flist!

I need your mailing address, btw. I need to stalk send you a present.

And a spatula?
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 06:50 pm (UTC)
I'm saving THAT for if coyote ever comes to town! But that's along the right track, actually, given the 'alternative use' of the two...

I know, I feel bad! I meant to find your e-mail address when I first got the message, then I got distracted (ooooh, there's a surprise!) and there have been days lately when I don't really even turn my computer on! (it's been a pain lately, anyway) Interestingly enough, I have a post-it note stuck to my monitor at this very moment reminding me to e-mail you. I suddenly thought of it this morning, for no apparent reason.

You can spatuala me if you don't get an e-mail tonight! ;)
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 07:10 pm (UTC)
Haha, you can email me at hgrande at gmail dot com.
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 07:51 pm (UTC)
Ta-Da! :D
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 06:54 pm (UTC)
You have nice fingernails!
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 07:51 pm (UTC)
They haven't survived the work every well, I'm afraid. They keep getting chewed up and I keep cutting them short. Unlike my hait, though, they grow quite nicely (I take gelatin when I remember, which really helps strengthen them).

So. Bed Bath and Beyond, Borders, or Kohls? Where are you most likely to want to buy something?
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 08:41 pm (UTC)
I'm gonna guess a cheese grater, though I'm not sure how you managed to get both hands.
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 02:42 am (UTC)
No, although I do alternate hands when I grate, so it's possible for me to injury both hands.

I have used a cheese grater to grate soap, so I have used it for other things, but... no. Grater injuries are more 'chunks missing' and this is more 'skin rubbed off'.

Well, it's ABOUT TIME you got back! Do you know how much harder it is for me to prcrastinate when my friends aren't updating? :P

I have NO idea what on earth you could have been doing to cause that, and I've thought pretty hard about it. Alas...
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 02:43 am (UTC)
I need to scan in those handwriting samples and e-mail them to you - that'll give you something else to procrastinate with! Of course, the last thing either of us needs is more things to do... O.O

I'll be posting a picture/additional clue later... ;)

Well, on an eternally long to-do list, what's one more thing, right?

Or, maybe that's the attitude that got us eternally long to-do lists in the first place...hmmm...

Honestly, my first thought regarding your injury was scissors. That's the place on one's thumb where excessive use of scissors would start to rub the skin away (I know from experience). But that doesn't make sense because it's both hands, and due to the 'use it's not intended for' comment, and...yeah, I still have no idea.
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 08:11 pm (UTC)
Well, you're on the right track because it is a repetative/rubbing kind of injury. And, interestingly enough, scissors were part of the process - just not the part that injured me!
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 10:59 pm (UTC)
It almost looks like you were using a cheese plane and just... kept... using it.

I hope it hurts less than it would on my hands. And also, I hope your overload goes away pretty soon! Overload is no fun at all.
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 02:45 am (UTC)
I usually take off fingertips with cheese-related injuries. ;)

It only hurt when I did it, it doesn't bother me now. But then, my hands are so dinged up I hardly notice a few more nicks and scratches...
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 01:17 am (UTC)
An ice pick?
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 02:45 am (UTC)
Nope! Not a stabbing injury.
Thursday, November 15th, 2007 12:02 pm (UTC)
Something to do with painting?
Thursday, November 15th, 2007 01:08 pm (UTC)
No, but you're in the right area... as far as the 'what I was doing' part! :D
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 02:51 am (UTC)
Hey, did anyone ever guess the correct implement that caused the injury?
