What’s in a name?

August (okay, the butt end of July) is not too early to start thinking of NaNo. Many people have entire worlds created and characters developed and whole story lines planned. I’ve never done that, I’ve always gone with the true spirit of NaNo, starting off November 1st with NO IDEA what I was going to end up with. And thus, my stories have a weird, meandering quality to them. But not this time! (right… what’s an ark?) This time I have a plan, and will have a more fully formed plan by November 1st (stay with me, this is going somewhere!).

Since NaNo stories are crap anyway, I’m going to indulge in my inner child (uh, and challenge myself as a writer by writing in second-person, yeah, that’s it) and write a Choose Your Own Adventure story. It’s going to be about ZOMBIES. And, as a Choose Your Own Adventure story, it needs its own blog so I can make it all link-tastic.

And this is where you come in. I need a NAME for that blog! A cool, zombie-like name that’s not already taken.

So, your first task it to come up with no more than THREE possibilities for a ‘Zombie Choose Your Own Adventure’ blog that are not currently taken on LJ (to find out if a name is taken do a search for the name and if it comes up as ‘does not exist’ it’s good. It cannot be a previously used and then deleted name). I will ‘test’ the names as you submit them, and even if the ‘best’ name is taken in the intervening time (between your submittal and my closing the contest) it can still win the contest.

I'm glad you're planning on doing NaNo again. Like every year, I mean to do it, but school pwns my soul every year around that time. It really is planned horribly for students. Perhaps I should try to prepare something of my own, though.

But if I fail the attempt, it will make me feel bad. So there's that to think about as well.

I've always wondered how one went about writing a Choose Your Own Adventure story.

My first one, which obviously doesn't count because it's not on LJ : http://blogoflivingdead.deadjournal.com/ for the zombies, rather than the survivors. You know: "Ate brains today. Can no longer QQ because my right eye fell out. There is no lolcat to sufficiently describe how I feel. Sigh. Want brains."

1. brainorsawn (or brain_or_sawn, if you like underscores) refers to one of the age-old instincts, similar to fight versus flight : braaaaaaains versus sawn-off shotguns.
First of all, this invokes two classic images of zombies: brains and sawn-off shotguns.
Secondly, the 'or' is a definite sign of the CYO branch of writing.
Third : if you say it quickly enough it kind of sounds like brainosaur, which is a very intelligent dinosaur that went extinct because the zombies kept targetting them, dinosaurs not really very well known for their cranial yum-yum. MAYBE ONE OF THEM SURVIVED! ON PAGE 37 YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO TAME ONE!
And lastly, the question of "why can't you have brain and sawn-off shotgun?" probably won't come up.

2. blogalypse It's short, it's catchy, it means you can cover more than 100% zombies if you so wish, and COME ON, LJ users are kind of like internet zombies, IT ALL WORKS.
