I keep adding stuff, and I want to make sure it's all clear. So this is your chance to ask questions before the big game starts!
Smeddley’s Second Semi-Annual (whenever I feel like it) Contest for Big, Cool Prizes
…hereafter referred to as “Snerfflebarglast”
Contest Rules and Regulations (these go up to 11!)
1. How to participate
Simply reply to some or all of the challenges that are posted to Smeddley’s blog! All comments will be screened, if you are posting anonymously be sure to sign your entry. You will still be eligible for fun and fabulous prizes if I can figure out who you are.
2. Entry limits
Entry limits will vary depending on the question asked, each round will have a clearly stated entry limit per person. If more than the allotted number of entries per person are received, only the first [# of eligible entries] will be considered for that contestant. If you wish to change your answer at any time you may do so by deleting your previous comment and re-posting.
You may ask a question about a challenge UNLESS there is a ‘no questions’ symbol (to be created later) on the post. If you ask a question on one of these rounds, it will be considered your answer. These rounds are purposefully ambiguous, and the point is to see how you respond to the question. If there is no ‘no question’ symbol, feel free to ask for any clarifications.
3. Awarding of Prizes
Final prizes will be awarded based on accrued points. A point tally/leader board will be posted at the top of this entry (which will remain at the top of my blog page for the duration of the contest). There will be links to each round, and all participants will be given ample time to go back and participate in all the rounds, so points will fluctuate based on participation. You will not be penalized if you only check in once a week, and there will be at least a week’s announcement before the end of the contest. It’s not over until the final buzzer, people.
Insta-prizes! There will be rounds with smaller ‘insta-prizes’. These will be indicated with the ‘insta-prize’ symbol (to be created later). In this case, though it may not seem it, there is a specific answer I’m looking for. Those that come up with that answer will win a prize. Obviously, as the prize probably has something to do with the answer, these prizes will not be revealed to everyone until the end of the contest. Winners of the insta-prize will be notified immediately (and asked if they even want it, of course!).
4. Duration of contest
At least all of August, possibly longer, until I get bored. Knowing my short attention span, it’ll be about 4-6 weeks. But it will definitely be over by November, in case I decide to do NaNo again. Which I will. Because I’m stupid that way. There will be no rhyme or reason as to when the rounds are posted, or how often, and that’s why the leader board and link list will be handily located at the top of my blog.
5. Awarding of Points
Completely arbitrary, in most cases. When there is a ‘right’ answer to a question, showing you know that right answer will get you a point. But there will also be points based on creative answers, as well. And participation points (if you participate in all of the rounds, even just to jot down a smart-ass remark, you will get bonus points). And suck-up points, of course! What corrupt contest would be complete without those? So, for HP fans, it may be a lot like House points being given out here, there and everywhere. A witty comment to my entry? Well, +1 to you! A really great entry in your blog… that says nice things about me? +5 to you! Bruce Campbell reference? +10! I also reserve the right to take away points at any time. Remember, smart-assery and butt-kissing can get you extra points, but it can also get points taken away. Use your powers wisely… (Note: no points will be awarded or taken away for serious matters. That is, comments on hot topics like religion, politics, and things of that nature will not be taken into consideration. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, and even if they differ from mine that’s no reason to penalize someone </seriousness>)
6. You mentioned Prizes. What are these Prizes?
Well, there are no hard and fast prizes, because it will depend on who wins. There are people I’d send a small quilt to, others might get romance novels, and still others might end up with a gift card. Obviously, if I don’t have your address you will end up with a virtual prize, or if I get an e-mail address, perhaps an internet prize. And there will be cheesy ‘participation’ prizes, the usual ‘write a story for you’ or ‘make you icons’ or ‘pimp you/your community’ type thing.
Also, it should be worth noting that winning of prizes will not, in any way, effect the quantity/quality of the yearly Smeddley’s Christmas Mailing gifts. They’ll still be crap. :)
7. So I don’t have to give you my address to ‘win’?
No, no you don’t. There’s more to winning than the prizes, there’s always boasting and lording it over the rest of my f-list. And, like I said, there are ways to win ‘stuff’ that doesn’t require me knowing where you live and having the ability to stalk you. Though I’m not a creepy stalker person, I wouldn’t ask anyone to believe that on my word alone. I’ve not (yet) stalked anyone, though that doesn’t mean I never will, but I’m lazy and broke so the chances are slim. Unless you live really, really, really close by. In which case, I probably already know where to find you and you’re hosed.
8. I’m willing to give you my address, but I live in another country / planet / reality. Can I still get prizes?
If you can tell me something to write on the outside of a box that will get it to you, I’ll send it.
9. Chances of Winning
Well, that depends on a lot of things. How many people enter. How good your answers are. How well you cheat. How well you suck up. There’s really no way of knowing.
10. What about the Cheaters, Cheaters, Pumpkin Eaters?
There’s no cheating, really. If you can look up an answer, do so. If I ask a question that has a ‘correct’ answer I’m either trying to make a point about some pet subject of mine or I’m testing your Google skills OR I’m seeing who can twist the ‘correct’ answer into the most ‘creative’ answer.
11. Why are you doing this, if you’re not a creepy stalker person?
Um, I’m an attention whore? I have too much crap in my house? I love giving people stuff? Take your pick.
