I found my pros/cons list of the house we bought 14 years ago, and there were 7 things I liked and 20 I didn't. I thought I'd take a look back at it...
Things I liked:
1. Nice kitchen - yup, still adore that.
2. Good dishwasher/decent oven - had to replace the oven.
3. Good trees in the backyard - have grown to hate the sweetgum, but it's still a great shade tee and we even grew another maple!
4. Nice sized yard, fairly private - until the neighbor behind us cut down a bunch of trees (sigh)
5. Decent sized bedrooms - eh, I've outgrown my craft room...
6. Already has a pond - which we removed.
7. Good attic storage - so much yes.
6 of those are still relevant!
Things I didn't like:
1. Location - weird thing, I now really like this location and it's one of the reasons I don't see myself moving!
2. Tile countertops in the kitchen - not anymore!
3. Single sink in master bath - why did I think this was a bad thing? It means more counterspace!
4. Tub doors - not anymore!
5. Textured wall treatment - still don't love it, still need to work on the master bath.
6. No room for a big tub - still true.
7. Not a great pool table room - still true.
8. Small TV (living) room - the room is still the same size, but the TV's in the finished basement now, sooo... still not a great room for the Christmas tree, but otherwise, it's fine.
9. Vent in 4th bedroom door, ventilation issue? - yeah, a bit, but it's the guest room, so whatever.
10. Windows need replacing - not anymore.
11. Mismatched trim, paint all white? - one of these days.
12. Will need to add 2 railings to sell - still true, at least, to people with a certain loan type (I mean, we bought it with a conventional loan that way, but FHA/VA would require something else).
13. No overhang at front door - still reaaaaallly want a porch.
14. Neighbor - they left.
15. Yard needs a lot of work - yup, still does.
16. Don't like the concrete patio/decking/bricks - took up the bricks, still a bit mismashed, but whatever.
17. Stupid steps in upstairs hall - still there, now look at them as likely to trip up an intruder.
18. Door to basement - still the bane of our existence and the reason we have a sectional sofa.
19. Wallpaper - all gone
20. Don't like the carpet upstairs - still don't, too cheap/lazy to replace it, though.
10 of those are still somewhat relevant, but 5 of those are actually fixable.
Not earth shattering, but interesting? To me, anyway. I still look at houses for sale, but being that I'm cheap, too lazy to move, and don't want a Homes Association, I don't see that happening any time soon.
