SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!!!

No, I'm not going to a Monster Truck Rally, but it is my anniversary.

What should I get Mr Smeddley for putting up with me for... uh... however many years we've been married?

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! :D

Perhaps you should get him a monster truck?

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That would be funny (since it is on SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!).

I wonder if Hot Wheels makes a good Monster Truck? :D

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
They do! I have a whole box of them. When I played, they were always the tough-but-gentle sort who helped out the police cars when they weren't crushing the "bad" cars.

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I should make a cake with a Monster Truck arena on it, and put a toy truck on it.

...if I wasn't so lazy...

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, that would be awesome. Just don't make it a Cupcake Cake (http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2008/07/ow.html).

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I hate cupcake cakes, and you owe me a set of retinas for that! O.o

:P

I'm thinking more of a layered, carved sheet cake. And I wouldn't even have to do a great job frosting it, because if I covered in in chocolate cookie crumbs it'd look like dirt/mud!

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh! You should make Dirt Cake and put the trucks on top. Mmmm...oreo-y...

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I WANT THAT CAKE!

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
OMGYES. I demand that cake for my birthday. Only it must be chomping on a tiny marsupial lion cake.

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
1. First, crush your oreos in the food processor. If you don't have a processor or blender, you can put a couple of handfuls in a gallon-sized bag and crush them with a rolling pin...or your hands. Put crushed oreos to the side.

Whenever mum made trifle (I think it was trifle?) when I was a kid, she'd give the ginger biscuits to dad to mash up, and take them outside and put them in a plastic bag and then give me a mallet. :3

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
We're not allow to use the mallet anymore because the top bit flung off one time during fairly exuberant cookie crushing.

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think, at 23, I'd get my privileges back. Alas.

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Do your parents do that thing where they're "we don't care if you're legally an adult! you're still our baby"?

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
No. I just get the look from my mother and careful reminders about the last time she cleaned the kitchen.

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha.

Transformers!

Not really his thing...

A crocheted 'Smeddley Endurance - x Years' certificate THE SIZE OF YOUR HOUSE.

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I... I don't think I could get that done before Sunday! I'm fairly quick with the hook, but...

[identity profile] nufin-left2lose.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Tickets to a Monster Truck Rally?

Well how many years is it? Because you should know, and there are definite guides for gifts depending on the number of years.

Does he drink scotch or something that ages nice? That you could get him that's been aged as many years as you've been married?

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
But then I'd have to go. :( And really, it's not something either of us would enjoy.

I'm pretty sure it's been 12 years. That would make the traditional gifts 'silk and linen'. Some websites say the modern is 'pearls'. While all of those might be good for me, not so much for him. He doesn't wear ties, so even a silk tie is out.

...when's the Xbox anniversary? The DVD, CD, and Computer Game anniversary? :/ Methinks their 'modern' gifts aren't modern enough...

[identity profile] nufin-left2lose.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
linen...well one could extrapolate linen and silk to bed stuff, and from bed stuff to sexy stuff?

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
True, but I was thinking more of a useful gift - something, um, practical. I don't particularly like to think of anything like that as a 'gift', because... well, that's a long, boring post all on its own, and I don't want to bore people with the strange inter-workings of my mind. Suffice to say any hanky-panky will be separate from the actual gift. :)

[identity profile] nufin-left2lose.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. But, without prying, I'm sure there's "special" hanky panky that he would enjoy.

I don't know Mr Smeddles, so I don't really know what to suggest. Apart from say doing the monster truck thing as a joke and fun night out fun like the fun you have when everything goes wrong on an outing but it's fun because you're both in a crappy situation together.

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to spend the day out at the arboretum taking pictures, but it's supposed to be nine billion degrees all weekend, so I think we're limited to indoor activities.

Ooooh, maybe we'll finally go and see the new Star Trek movie... we could make a geek-tastic day of that!

Anniversary

[identity profile] pizzamaker1000.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! You go Girl!

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yay me! I actually remembered this year...

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
A however-many-years'd cephalopod?

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
err, like, that many years for how many legs

[identity profile] smeddley.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure it's 12, and that's a whole lotta legs. Though it'd work for a squid... The squid in my new Amigurumi Knits book seems to only have ten legs, though given time (which I don't really have) I might be able to alter it. Or I could whip up a 12-leg Giant Squid Pillow...

[identity profile] auraesque.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
...That would be the greatest twelve legged pillow ever. Oooh, and it's tentacles could extend reaaally long so that it could wrap them around wayfaring passersby. From the couch.

[identity profile] penchaft.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Next year you could have a baker's squid!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/anam_cara_/ 2009-06-26 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats!! Well after this past Valentine's Day, you have a lot to live up to!

What about a geocaching scavenger hunt of gifts/experiences to span the weekend? I don't know about you, but it's outrageously humid here, when it's not raining torrentially. But, even a countryside drive or going to some off the wall place could be fun.

I think making a custom boardgame based on your relationship would be cool. Obvious choice would be trivia pursuit style, but I bet you could come up with more interesting ideas.
