The problem with tying a string around your finger to remember something is that, while it reminds you that there's something to remember, it doesn't tell you exactly what it was. That's why I switched to thick rubber bands - I write on them and wear around my wrist until I do whatever is written on them. It really helps, especially when it comes to things like remembering to bring stuff into work. I wear it home and I can't take it off until I put whatever it is (library book, etc) into my work bag.
Being a forgetful person, I also tend to leave notes in my calendar of important things. But since I mostly rely on my work calendar, and I don't want to put too much personal info on there (I know you can set appointments to 'private', but that information would still be out there!), I've resorted to shorthand and code. The only problem is... I don't remember my own hints.
I have an 'appointment' from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, December 8th that reads: EAL. What in the bloody blue blazes is that supposed to mean?!

EDIT: OH MY GOD YOU'RE A GENIUS!
I have no idea why I abbreviated it, other than it was lazy typing. That'll learn me. Not only is it not sooper-sekrit, it's a work function! It's our yearly Employee Appreciation Luncheon!

You've been worried about not getting enough good food and then getting hungry for candy later in the day.
