I know this will definitely annoy some people on my f-list, so... sorry about that, but I need to vent.
Archetype Me is a website that features an amazingly short quiz that "types" you. The answers are more transparent than some OK Cupid quizzes, which is saying something. But the best part? The first question.
"Do you identify as:
Male Female"
And then your types are subtly different based on that (hmmmm, I should take the quiz as male and see if it's different). Most are just slightly different icons, but the same categories, with the exception of two: "king" replaces "queen", which based on the gender separation is... not "understandable", but I can see where they were going. But the other difference? "Fashionista" becomes "gentleman", which... does not have the same connotation to me. "Fashionista" conjures up a vain, shallow, image-conscious woman while "gentleman" is used to mean well-dressed, but also insinuates a kindness and concern for others (or propriety, as of old).
The thing is, the gender question us completely irrelevant. King and queen can both become "royalty", which is not gender-specific, and the image-conscious one could just be... couture? High society? Fashion-minded? And of a dozen "labels" that don't rely on gender.
Edit (I can't get to the bottom of the entry on my phone, so this is going here...) I took the quiz as a guy, and picked what I thought were analogous answers - I wrote them down and took it again sa girl. As "male" I was 44% intelligent, 30% creative, 6% gentleman, and 20% other. Using those as a guide, as "female" I was 33% creative, 32% intelligent, 15% caregiver, and 20% other. The answers are different, notably "a shoulder to cry on or companionship" became "a favor our listening ear", which are different.
For the record, I was 37% creative, 28% intellectual, 15% caregiver, and 20% other... in a girly way, naturally.
