Depressing news about the end of the world

Namely, that some 33 schools in Michigan closed 2 days early because of the whole thing, which is just pathetic. And, I think, speaks volumes about the state of our education system.

If I cared enough, I'd get up early and see what happens to websites like december212012.com when the counter zeros out and nothing happens. Oh, wait a minute, that counter is only counting down to midnight, not the 5:11 am CST prediction. Maybe I could stay up until midnight. We'll see. I'm a bit hazy on the whole 11:11 UTC thing, anyway. Where did that come from?

Sadly, the next major end of the world prediction isn't until 2017, so it'll be a long wait unless some nutcases step up to the plate in the meantime. Which is very likely, there's been a predicted end of the world on an average of twice a year for the last 40+ years. Just not many quite so large.
