First sub-gig did not go particularly stunningly, but I survived. I never wanted to be a belly dance teacher, not even at a gym level (which is more of an aerobics teacher, really). But, I suppose filling in now and then won't kill me. Maybe. I'm sure everyone hated it and will never show up if I sub again. Anyway.
Today's XKCD on the feed taught me a few things, one being that people pick brilliant things to discuss. In the feed comments, there's a good discussion about the fallacy of the assumption of the price of a rice and beans dinner. The first point being that you wouldn't devote whole separate 2-hour shopping trips to a single meal (unless you are insane, or really bored), so only a portion of the shopping trip man-hours can be counted as 'time working' on the meal. Same with the cooking time, since you probably aren't just standing at the stove staring at the food the whole time. You're sorting mail or washing dishes or surfing the internet. Or something. The second thing it taught me is that WWII was really, really expensive. Number three on the list was that Democrats get a lot more campaign and lobby contributions than I think they like to admit, and I do hope all the people protesting them realize that it has to stop on both sides, not just the side they don't like. And the last thing it taught me is that I'm way further up the income ladder than I thought, apparently? I thought I was lower middle class, rather average. I feel average! And with income disparity being what it is regionally (I'd be damn near homeless in New York, that one woman pays more than half of my house payment for her 90 square foot apartment!) I don't think their chart can be right.
Craftember trundles along, I've completed a few more projects but I am officially behind. I'm pinning more and more hopes on Thanksgiving weekend, but I'm worried. Some of the things I have left that I'm thinking about are pretty big projects. I really should do something now, but... I don't feel like it. I'm a little depressed about the subbing tonight and I should just go take a shower and watch some Best of Top Gear shows. We have BBC America in HD now! It's either that, or the Chiefs game, which might be just as funny but in a completely different way.
