There are a few work-arounds to get rid of the pesky ticky-boxes, one a style sheet (doesn't work on the plain comment pages, which I prefer) and a Greasemonkey script (which will work on my home computer, but not on my phone).
However, I have not connected LJ with my FB or Twitter, so even if you have ticky-boxes visible, I cannot click them. Not that I think any of you would think I would do such a thing, anyway. I try to keep my on-line personas separate, though I'm really starting to fail at that (it's just too much effort).
Yes, it's a bonehead move on LJ's part. Yes, it's annoying. But here's the thing - anyone could have done it at any time, if they wanted. [ctrl]+c, [ctrl]+p Yeah, it was harder, and it took effort (I do understand the 'accidental' concerns, which they did change so [tab] now goes directly to post), but it could be done. I'm not too worried about my privacy, but then, I rarely even lock a post, so... obviously not so concerned. Aesthetically, I hated the boxes. Hence, Greasemonkey to the rescue.
I trust y'all, I know you'll repost wisely if you do. I would encourage you to tell LJ this sucks, because it is stupid and I hate extra ticky-boxes cluttering up the place and it is eroding the control you have over your own journal. Post a news comment, vote in a poll, send them an e-mail... whatever works for you.
But, and here's where I am removed from the vehement furor of a lot of the commentors, nothing you ever put on the internet is completely private. Nothing you say out loud is completely private. Nothing repeated outside the confines of your own noggin is completely private. Remember that, always. I know that sounds borderline paranoid, and maybe that's overly 'safe', but... it's good advice.

Ha! I saw (after I posted the poll, which you can't edit...) that I spelled 'tickeybox/tickybox' differently in adjacent lines. So, which spelling is right? Firefox spellcheck doesn't like either!
