So I went out at lunch today to buy a good pair of walking shoes, as my current pair of sneakers make my toes go numb after the first mile or so. I had (in an attempt not to spend money) tried a pair of sneakers I had in a locker at work, but they were even worse - my toes went numb and there was a horrid shooting pain up the side of my right ankle. Which reminded me why they were sitting, forgotten, in the locker.

So I took a deep breath and headed off to the New Balance store, where they had 1) all-white, non-blinged-out sneakers 2) size 6s and 3) EE widths. Sure, the sneakers make my feet resemble flippers, because they're damn near as wide as they are long, but they are comfortable (as far as I can tell, the real test will be a long walk). They were also $90. This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but my shoes usually run in the $5-$20 range, partially owing the the fact that I can shop in the kid's department. Still, I did need good shoes if I was going to walk 3 days a week, so I meekly handed over my credit card.

Then, some illogical part of my brain kicked in and decided that, while $90 is way too much for one pair of shoes, if I bought a few pairs of cheap shoes, then, on average, it wouldn't have been a bad deal. Either that, or my brain was just trying to rationalize doing more shopping, since I was now in the mood.

So I headed to the cheap shoe store and spent $9 on a pair of kid's Ked-like shoes and $20 on a pair of black spike heels (on of these things is not like the others...). So, on average, I only spent $40 per pair. Still high, but better. ;)
