I finally went to the doctor because something tells me your arm's not supposed to make sounds like microwaving popcorn when you move it. Good news: he knows what's wrong. Bad news: it requires physical therapy.

Evidently my laziness caused the muscles that hold my shoulder into place to... stretch. This allows the ball-joint thingee of my upper arm bone (why yes, my husband does teach anatomy, isn't it obvious?) to pull away a bit and as it rotates it pops along/against/whatever the ligaments/tendons (no matter how many times you tell me, I will never remember which is which and what are where) and this is bad.

My doctor, having a left shoulder that no longer works properly, knows this, and is determined to nip it in the bud before I end up with what is medically known as a 'frozen shoulder' (I'm sure there's a fancy technical term, but that's what he said).

I got a steroid shot (owie) and the physical therapy people are going to call me. I have no idea how often I'll have to go or how much it will cost me, but I would like the full use of my arm back. It's really putting a crimp on my activities. :(
