900 down, 100 to go. Look for pics this weekend, hopefully.

In other news, last night I finished Untamed, the fourth House of Night novel. How, you may ask, did this happen when the third one made me twitchy and feel like hurling it across the room? I'd forgotten I'd put it on hold at the library (before I read the last one) and when it came in, I adopted a 'how bad can it be?' approach. Or maybe it's more like train wreck syndrome, I don't know.

At any rate, it's just as cheesy and campy as the last one, though thankfully minus the sex with minors plot-line. The sytle of the writing is very teenage girl confidential - like she's just discussing it with friends. This does make it a very easy read, but won't thrill any lovers of literature. It lacks fun, clever turns of phrase and witty dialogue, though I suppose it holds more true to a teen girl's mind. Still, I think it's possible to retain the essense of a teen narrator and still, well, write better.

The story picks up right where the last left off, with Zoey on the outs with her buds and fighting the evil all alone. Or almost all alone. She still has Aphrodite (a thoroughly confusing and somewhat unbelievable character - I know what they were trying to do with her, but I wasn't buying it) and the special and mysterious Stevie Rae. Things get better, things get worse, there's a lesson on judging people, a spooky poem-form prophecy (what supernatural story would be complete without that? Except, maybe, a good one) and then everything goes terribly pear-shaped. The one kudo I will give the book is that it doesn't end on a happy, everything works out for the best note, but I'm pretty sure that's just because it's a cliff-hanger - there's another book in the series. Will I read it? I honestly don't know. This one took me a week to get through (had it been good it would have taken about 3 hours), so I'm not sure if my desire to see if it can get any worse will overcome my aversion to ~*special*~ teen vamp stories.
