You know what bothers me most about reading up on the whole Amazon fiasco? The number of people, joking and not-so-joking, that say it would have been fine (indeed, it would have made them happy!) if X type of books had been de-ranked.
This is not acceptable. Period.
Joke or not, you've just said censorship is okay if you agree with it, and you moral outrage loses all value in the face of your hypocrisy.
I, for one, would be happy if movies by Moore were somehow stricken from all searches. I detest the man. And yet, at the same time, I can intellectually recognize my emotional bias and I'd still say it was wrong.
Everyone has biases, opinions, tastes, and beliefs. And sometimes they have a place in an argument. But not in this one. Not in an argument about the freedom to express any belief.
So please, joke or not, that is not the thing to say.
