Round 1 verdict on the Mustang: fuel pump is bad. Cost for replacing it is $800-ish. On the other hand, they also 'found' one of the cylinders isn't firing, and it needs a new coil. Cost: $300-ish. Total estimates repairs: $1,158.

Okay, then, if they only very briefly got it running, how the hell do they know about the coil? Plus, it's always idled kinda funny. I might call shenannigans on that one, and he did admit this isn't something that would have just happened at exactly the same time as the fuel pump. So if it's bad, it's been bad for awhile. And yet, I've not noticed any difference in how it runs. So that part I migh put off and/or get a second opinion.

The fuel pump is a different issue. The car is not running, so something has to be done. After a bit of whining and complaining about the cost the guy agreed to look into after-market parts. Which could reduce the bill a bit. If I can get the fuel pump part in under $700 (with tax) I think I'll be okay with it.

Funny, spending $2,000 on a TV doesn't hack me off as much as spending $1,100 on my car, which makes no sense. I need a car. No one needs a TV. I guess that just goes to show you how much easier it is to spend money on things you want.

In related car news, I did take the 'vette in to get its oil changed, so it'll stop yelling at me. I went to Iffy Lube, which normally costs $40-$50. Not so for a 'vette, which requires high-end synthetic oil (it says so on the oil cap, actually, and I believe the car would know if you didn't, it's that kind of car). $101 for an oil change. Just an oil change. Eeep. I guess if you can afford an expensive car, you can afford the maintenance and repairs? O.o And this is why our other car is a Hyundai Elantra.

I've pretty much calmed down and resigned myself to paying a buttload for the Mustang (part of the issue is that it's only worth $2K-$3K). What choice do I have? And, to top it off, it needs an oil change, too...

In unrelated news, we finally had to change our passwords at work. I used, in part, an emoticon. Go figure, they're actually useful little things, aren't they?
