So yesterday we had our fitness evaluation at the gym. Yippee. Anyway, they have this thing called your 'fitness age' which tells you, based on measurements and performance, how old you seem. It's not particularly surprising that I scored significantly older than my 33 years, as I've not been known for much of anything that resembles physical activity in the last 15 years. Unless, maybe, I added weight to my knitting needles. Hmmmm...

So what's my fitness age, you ask? Overall, I got a 50. Personally, I think that fits in just fine with my rocking chair and knitting needles, and my desire to yell at kids to get off my lawn, and think that in light of this, I should be allowed to retire post-haste to enjoy my senior years.

The annoying thing was that, for each category, you got an age and a rating (average, poor, very poor, etc). I scored very poor on my body composition (big surprise!) and I think that was my highest age, though I can't remember what it was. I got an average and a... I think it was 36 on my heart, and something old and poor on my strength. The one that really ticked me off was my flexibility rating. Now, I don't think I'm all that flexible (it's not like I can put my head on my knees anymore) but according to their tests, I have the flexibility of a 22-year-old. AND YET! That only scores me an 'average'. WHAT?! I'm 11 years 'younger' in flexibility and that's average? I was three years older, heart-wise, and that was average. What do I have to score to get a 'good'? Or even a 'better than average'? Shouldn't 'average' be scoring your real age?

Mr. Smeddley pointed out that no one is going to pay for a personal trainer if they're better than average, and I can see that, but still. I feel cheated out of an atta girl. I may be fat and weak, but don't I get a pat on the back for not stiffening up too much?

After we learned how old we 'really' were, we did a spin on the machines and got the personal trainer pitch. I can't imagine spending $50/hr session for that, but, then, I'm not all that concerned with being in shape (round is a shape!). Then we went swimming (I really need a swim cap, silly as they look, or I'm going to have to seriously cut my hair). Now I am sore and tired. This is partially because I went to sleep at 2 am and the alarm went off at 5 am, but you know, I refuse to take responsibility for my irresponsibility. All I have to do is survive the day without taking a nap (thus perpetuating the cycle). Wish me lu...zzzzzzzzzz
