Whatever will I do when the library next door closes for renovations?! They're slated to be closed a year. *sob*

Wanna know how much I'm there? Lemme tell you. Today I went over to try to grab a book out of the browsing collection (new releases, no holds allowed) and despite getting there right after opening, someone nabbed it before me. 15 minutes later, I get a call from the librarian telling me another browsing collection edition came in, would I like it?

They know my name. They know where I work. They can find me...

Creepy? Not so much. I feel all speckled. I told them I'd bring them cookies. :D

Aww!!! That is special! :)

Wow, closed a whole year?!?! That sucks. That's the library my friend Carrie goes to, and I juuuuust introduced her to the joys of the library! And now she's going to have to go elsewhere? Boo.

And isn't that where you get LJ access too? Or have you been finding a sekrit backdoor entry somehow?

Efffffff that noise. A year is too long. Better stock up on your War and Peace-types.

I have limited secret access, at least until they discover it and cut me off. That is the only place I access my e-mail, though. Hence me pondering the Sidekick. I just can't justify the expense when I could just... you know, work at work? Bah.

I don't know when they're closing, this fall I think. I'll be able to pick up my stuff at the Blue Valley branch (on 151st) since it's on my way home, but still. I certianly won't get that level of service! :D

It seems like it's longer than they should need, but what can I do? And maybe it'll reduce my impulse check-outs and I can make headway on the books I've bought but haven't read (all 150+ of them...)

Oh, well...there you go.
Monday, March 3rd, 2008 04:48 pm (UTC)
So what book is next for you? Not that I'm pushing my recommendation, but... ;)

WELL, if you were on Good Reads...

Not that I'm pushing my site recommendation.

Awww, that sucks. If they closed my close-by library I'd be screwed.

Also, I think it's kind of cool that you can't put holds on new releases...you CAN here, so before a book even comes out it has 683 holds for it. If I really want a new book, I go to the bookstore. Which only feeds my fundamental problem of book excess that I was trying to solve with library use.

They have both - a bunch you can put holds on, and 1-2 per library branch that go in the browsing section. So if you're lucky you can get them early. Another secret is the large-print section. A lot of times people don't think to reserve the large-print version of new releases, so the wait can be sugnificantly less!

I do pass by another library on my drive home, so all is not lost, but this fall/winter and next spring/summer is gonna suck. :(

See, and my problem is that Borders is all around more convenient than our public library... easier & free parking; open later; extremely close to home. I wish I could get back into the habit of going to the library first, before the bookstore. I have to say though, that since Borders changed their cafes to Seattle's Best (and no longer have soup or Italian sodas), which frankly I find the coffee pretty 'meh' and truly don't like the chai, it has cut down on our visits there (which used to be every Friday night). But I love the staff and I love that they recognize us when we come in, and that sort of thing makes a big difference. A year is such a long time to wait. Will the staff perhaps be temping at the other locations?

Awwww, a whole year!

I hit up the library around here today for spring break. Got an audio tape and a stack of books that I think i might be able to go through during this week. Here's to hoping!

I'm attempting to curb my book spending, especially since I have so many unread books at home. And I really like getting the audiobooks from the library (way too expensive to buy those!). But, yeah, it'll be tough. They are temporarily reassigning the librarians, I don't know which are going where, though.

Pay... for parking? What is this concept of which you speak? O.o (also I'm more of a Barnes and Noble fan!)

I know! That's just insane.

Good luck reading! You can do it! And you'll have to let us know if any of them are amazing - because I'm always looking for recommendations, you know my to-read list isn't nearly long enough!
