"I'm okay with sexism, how dare you not be?"
That pretty much sums up a comment left on my review of Sidetracked Home Executives, with an additional "reviewer must have a stick up her behind". Wheeee!
I've thought about taking down my reviews in general, but I use them (other people's, obviously) when I shop so I figured I should contribute some, and for years I did.
Then came the cult of Harriet Klausner, the roving gangs of down-voters, and a general air of... unsavoriness about the place, and I stepped away. Haven't posted a review in forever, but still get comments on my old ones.
None quite as annoying as this one, though. My inclination is to ignore it, but as I turn it over in my mind I get angrier, and I want to respond though I know it will be pointless.
Funny thing, yes, I get sexism from the old guys at work, at first. But you know, most of the time, once they know I am in charge, they're okay with it. It's the older ladies and the younger men (probably raised by said older ladies) that are the most troublesome. And, of course, that's a generalization - and *most* people are fine, but out of the group that has a problem with me being the engineer... that's the predominant demographic.
And, really, with as much money as they've made off that book, would it kill them to update it to a non-sexist version that maybe entertains the possibility that dad stays home with the kids (while dad2 goes to work... yeah, that's probably asking to much).
