Tangled Skeins (but not for long, my mom is letting me borrow her ball winder!)

Okay, I know I’m spamming your f-page but it’s a ‘getting ready to do things’ sort of day (I feel unmotivated to do any real work). In keeping with that theme, here’s my yarn stash, and my theories on what I can do to achieve me 101/1001 goals.

It’s not good yarn, not real yarn-store quality yarn, but remember that I’m not a heavy knitter/crocheter, so it does for me.

First off, here’s a pic of a bunch of leftovers:

The green and grey in the upper corner is some old Wool-Ease that I bought back in high school. The only thing I’ve made out of it is a puppy-sized scarf that serves no purpose as I don’t dress my dog. But it’s too small for anything else!

The variegated black, purple, and green below that is some fluffy yarn that was bought back in high school and I have no idea what I bought it for or if I’ve made anything of it. I did make a crocheted butterfly (like this one) out of it last year, but there’s quite a bit left.

Middle top is the leftover sport weight yarn from the crocheted potholders I made, and that just reminded me there’s one more skein of yarn I forgot to take a picture of! Okay, done. Where was I?

Middle bottom is the leftover bits from the baby blanket I made, which I have zero use for but the yarn was so cheap! I was going to give it to my friend, but she’s getting the rocker instead (though the blanket is finished and the rocker is not…). This is, of course, the point where anyone who has a baby and wants it to ask me for it. ;)

Top right is some leftover peach boucle from some pillows I knitted my mom ages ago.

The two on the bottom left are yarns I bought to make a plastic canvas pumpkin. I don’t know if I bought green specifically for it, or if I just used some green I had from other project ideas, but I definitely bought the brown and orange specifically for that.

Here we have yarn I was using to make Octopodes – some of it I already had from I don’t remember where (or it was given to me) but I did buy the red and black specifically for the Satapus.

Somewhere along the way I decided to make some felted wool stuff. I bought wool to make potholders:

and then found a really cool crocheted felted purse so I bought yarn for that, too:

Boucle I bought because I have a ‘crochet big house-slipper like socks’ book, not remembering I HATE crocheting with boucle:

And I think I bought this long ago (before I finished the peach pillows and my hatred of boucle set in):

Speaking of long ago, about 12 years ago I started knitting a blanket:

Originally my plan was to scrap it (yeah, it has no real pattern) but just the thought of tearing all that out boggles the mind. So I’ll just finish it to a point where it’s symmetrical and call it a throw. I have some more yarn left over, I think it should be enough:

And I was, since I was scrapping the blanket, going to make something else with the yarn:

but I like the way this is turning out even less. So I’ll use what I need on the knitted blanket, see what’s left and decide what to do with it then (I’ll be ripping this out).

This is the same pattern as the baby blanket, but a bit bigger:

Interestingly enough this blanked started as a garage-sale buy, most of the variegated yarn was crocheted into a ripple afghan, but I didn’t like it enough to keep going (not to mention the problem of determining hook size and crocheting with a different tension than someone else!). I bought another thing of the variegated, no problem, but the one in the picture isn’t quite the same. So my grand plan now is to crochet it to a square with the matching yarn (this is the one I had to rip out twice last weekend), then crochet an all-white border, then keep working outward in stripes of variegated+white and white+white to reach a decent size.

This is a blanket I started long ago and I love the stitch and the yarn, but was a doofus and didn’t pay attention to the edges. It’s really messed up and I plan on pulling it all out and re-doing it.

This is a blanket I started long long long long ago. I have no idea what hook I was using, and am not overly fond of the shell pattern, so I’ll probably pull it out (there’s not much made) and use the yarn on another pattern I want to try.

A stuffed crocheted horse I’m working on:

And another set of potholders I’m working on:

Yarn I bought because it was really, really, really on sale and it is SO SOFT!

Yarn I bought because it was cheap but I have no idea what I thought I was going to do with it…

Furry stuff, I think I bought it to make crocheted animals (I have several books including one of birds and I think I thought it would look neat), but I really need to get some more (and some more wool) so I can make this awesome felted fuzzy rug.

There’s also my stash of crochet cotton that I use to make snowflakes and other Christmas ornaments (wreaths and trees) and the blue is for a wedding cake pattern I have. The black was used to edge a blanket I made the dog (I blanket stitched fleece and corduroy together)

And I got more at a garage sale recently:

along with a WHOLE BUNCH of other crap:

Then there’s the stuff floating around my craft room I can’t really explain or quantify:

Except I know the white and green was probably bought to make more Chirstmas Trees, though I was having a really hard time finding good greens.

There may be a stray skein here or there, but I think that’s about it! And by the end of my 1001 days I need to have half as much. Which is defined by volume, I decided. So if it comes down to Space Bags and a super-powerful vacuum cleaner to ‘succeed’, you bet I’ll go there! ;)

I thought at first that the first photo was your yarn stash. And I thought how could you possibly still have yarn from High School???

ahhh what a lovely stash you have my dear. Tres impressive!!

Dear Smeddley,

I arrived on Thursday morning. There is a shark here, and I think he might be my new friend. Nakedblueninja is nice, and is taking me out to see the city. Send shrimp friends.

...does 'ball winder' not sound rather unpleasant to anyone else?
